Yeah, but Chipstein has the Amsoil dual remote FUEL filter, too:-laf



I always put in 3 gallons. That tiny amount of overfilling does NOTHING wrong for the engine. . I notice NO increase in blowby or leakage.



I would encourage you guys to try the Redline 15w-40 oil. Yes, it's $30 a gallon and way too expensive. But you'll be impressed with how fast your turbo spools:)

well I forgot one thing and I've seen it since my last post... ...



Lets look at our owners manual shall we? ( I admit mine is not in front of me and I'm committing to memory as well as experience)

All of the equipment that i service- I work at a Bobcat dealer- the "oil capacity" includes the filter. Our trucks as well use this specification. (correct me if I am not right?)



I know the "engine oil capacity" is 11 quarts. Dad's ol' '94 shows overfull with 11q in the pan and none in the filter... His "capacity" is 11q.



We might already be thinking about this, but i wanted to reiterate, just to be sure. I hate to sound like the know-it-all-mechanic, I despise them, but too often I see "capacity" confused with "amount I pour in", weather it hydraulic system, engine, transmission, or so on.

33 gallons is what I average putting in. In fact, I can't remember the last time that I didn't put at least 30 in. I have heard so many stories of how running the tank really low will kill the VP. Lets see, factory LP moved near the tank, regularly see 2 psi at WOT, and average of 33 gallon fill-ups = VP-44 with 70,000 miles and still going strong. Oh yeah, I have ran out of gas too. (big surprise);) Maybe I got one of the good VPs.



As for the 35. 7g, I was shocked that it was still running when I put that much in. :--) :eek:

Maybe the gaspump was not accurate. Or maybe the station had an electronic "cheater box" that allows them to inflate the amount sold so that they take in more money than is due them. I know a few stations use cheater boxes, mostly independent stations. (I saw this on some "news" show a few years ago. )

That what I thought too. But when I did the calculations from the fuel log it worked out. I just really pushed it that time. :eek:
 
Oil pan capacity on the Dodge is 8 qts Low and 10 qts High, the rest depends on the oil filter size/brand and how long you let the engine drain.



If you allow the engine to drain long enough, the oil cooler will also drain. 95% of trucks will take 3 gls total, there are a few early 94 and 95 that will only take 11 qts, but the pan capacity does not change.



If you really want to be sure of your dip-stick calibration, on level ground, drain the oil for 15 minutes and remove the oil filter, you'll notice that the filter will probably be half full, a siphon affect by the oil draining. With filter off allow to drain for another 30 minutes. Torque your drain plug. Do not install oil filter at this time, pour 8 qts and wait a few minutes. Oil level should be at or really close to the Low mark. Add 2 qts more for the total of 10 qts, wait another few more minutes and check the level, at or close to the High mark. Now pre-fill the oil filter and install. Run engine for about 5 minutes and shut down, check level after 2 minutes and add oil to bring back to the High mark. You now know how accurate your dip-stick is and what the engine will take.



On those few trucks that only seem to take 11 qts, it has been a combination of different oil cooler capacity and cooler not draining as much by the siphon affect. Some trucks after a long hard drive will also siphon some of the oil from the oil filter and cooler after a few minutes of shutting down, showing an over fill engine.



This is how I train my oil changer, whether he follows it or not is a different story but I know that complains of incorrect oil level have gone away.

BVol so how many gallons of fuel do you all put in your 35 gallon tanks?!



I once put in 44 gallons in my tank, and had 1/4 tank when I started to fuel up. Of course I had to pay the bill, asked for a receipt and then talked to the manager. She took my information and said the owner would contact me in a few days. I told them to shut down the pump and she said she would not.



So, I came home, called the cops and they called the store and told them to shut it down. THEN, they did. They were going to rip off everyone for the weekend but I got it stopped. Come to find out the pump was bad. Most of the diesel customers there are big rigs and I bet they don't know the difference, unless they fill up, but everyone was getting ripped off at this pump.
 
11 under the hood and 1 in the toolbox.



I did put in 36. 2 g once, all the way to the cap. No she was not running and the fuel gauge read 1/4 tank.

Josh,

I am curious as to how this oil in holding up in your truck, not being a proper diesel rated oil for our application. Have you run any oil analysis with the Mobil 1 0w40? Possibly the Delvac 1 and Mobil 1 Truck and Suv, both a 5w40, might be a better choice.

Your right! Tried it this weekend. Takes 3 gallons when you get it all out. Should keep oil looking cleaner for a while longer, too. Thanks.
 
I'm glad I could help, long procedure but it only takes one time to know the true calibration of the dipstick and your total oil capacity.
