NV4500 in you auto
I have a 96 RAM2500 that I converted from auto to manual. It was quite a while ago but I'll try to give you all thew details.
I got the NV4500 from our local wrecking yard, the shaft with the clutch actuating arm were in the bell housing. ($1500. 00) You do not have to get another crossmember as the one you have will work. You are going to find that the NV4500 is 1 1/8" shorter than the auto so the drive shafts will need to be lenghthen the rear and shorten the front, assuming that you have a 4X4. The input spline into the NV241 will have to be changed out. I got mine from Ventures Truck Parts in Ogden, Utah. venturesparts.com, 1-800-464-1713. Great folks! You will need the clutch and brake hangar from the wrecking yard too. Not really hard to install. While you are removing the hangar, look the left of the steering colume, you will see a jumper wire there that has green connectors. (I think) It is only about five onches long. You will need that so your back uplights will work. The master cylinder, resavour and slave cylinder are a unit and they seem to be in great demand as I could not find one at a wrecking yard. ($310. 00) at the parts house. You wont have to remove all the old shift linkage but remove enough to get the job done. There were some other wiring problems that I ran into but can not recall just what they were. Something to do with the transmission temp light. (remove bulb place on the floor and step on it) that is what I did. I used the overdrive switch for the exaust brake inabler. Oh, be sure to get a nut for the fifth gear problem the NV4500 had. I have the wrench to get the job done and will be glad tom loan it to you. I also have a socket for the spline shaft. Necessary to hold the shaft for the 360lbs torque on the new nut.
You will have to get a flywheel out of a 5. 9 diesel. The V10 will not fit. Voice of experience. I wish you all the luck in the world. Just do the job one step at a time and it will work out fine. I've had mine for five years and have not mhad one minute of problems with it. Have fun. PM me if you need anything else.
