I come home from working evening shift, throw the pan under and open the valve. Come morning, I know it's out. I also put the new filter on the seat so I don't do something real stupid come morning.



Re:12 quarts, on the full line, better to much than not enough.



I disagree. Too much oil leads to foaming, maybe other problems.
 
Well, I guess the quart in the pump explains why mine only takes 10 quarts :eek: Guess maybe I will start draining mine over night.

And then there are those of us who are too poor to buy unwrecked or new trucks and have dented oil pans. My cousin's '97 takes 10. 5 quarts. Mine takes 11 but I have very minor dents. These dents are a result of the front axle hitting the pan in a front end accident of some sort.
 
I seem to recall previous posts warning against overfilling with oil because of the following scenario. Too much oil in the pan increased crankcase pressure leading to oil leakage at the rear crank seal. This was thought to be bad; something about oil and clutches not mixing.



Anyway, I am no expert, but you may want to look into it.
