A dealer told me that DC had a 6sp for a short time in 1/98 but it had bugs and it was discontinued for awhile. Did they get the bugs out on time to get the 6 sp. in any 12 valve trucks? Craig

I know of one 98 12V owner in Portland OR that has retrofitted a 6 speed into his truck. It cost about $5000 I recall. I have the details somewhere if anyone's interested.

I heard from a guy i used to work with, who owned a garage, that the NV5600HD is nothing more than an add on to the 4500. He told me that the nv4500 could be converted; that there is a "kit"
Is this BS? has anyone else heard that?

Why worry about a 6 speed? Install a gear splitter ($1800 at Camping World) and you've got a 10 speed. Anyway, from what I understand the 6 speeds have problems all their own. As far as performance, the 12v's are far superior to the 24v's and the NV4500 with a splitter is far superior to ANY 6 speed. Upgrade what you've got.

Joe, that guy was b. s. ing you about it being a add on. It is a totally different transmission (I think I read it weighs 160lbs. more than the 5 speed). There was a thread (I think from Fritzs' web page) that had pictures and specs on the 6 speed. I know a engineer that had one of the first 3500 6 speeds to drive and write a evaluation on. This was before they were ever in production. The truck was a 24 valve- I don't think they ever had one behind a 12 valve engine.

You have a unit (truck) that has a speedo sensor in the rear axle instead of the transmission-all you need is the 6 spd-shifter lever-brackets as the bellhousing is part of the 6 spd transmission, and the transmission, don't remember what the mfg. told me about the drive shaft ,to long???
If the pick-up sensor is in the transmission forget it. I did, and the transmission would have been free(for testing ).
