I am in the process of putting a 12 valve Cummins into a 2003 F350. I would like to put an air compressor in place of the vacuum pump so I have air in the field and for the air bags without having a gas compressor in the box. I don't want to put the vacuum pump back on the motor because I won't need it and they just eventually start leaking oil. I looked at an FL70 Freightliner with a 12 valve in it and that compressor, a cummins factory installed part, will bolt to the motor but there are 2 clearance issues. It will hit the 2 brackets on the side of the p pump and with the truck power steering pump behind it it hits the motor mount. I have searched the internet but can't find much for different options for compressors. I hoped someone here would be more knowledgeable then I am and would have an idea on what compressor would fit. I would prefer one that goes where the vacuum pump does but wouldn't be against a belt drive one if there was a way to get rid of the vacuum pump but still run the power steering pump. Any advice or pointers would be greatly appreciated.
 
Ford uses an electric vacuum pump mounted on the fender well for the heater controls and the auto locking hubs, and uses the power steering system for the hydro boost brakes.
 
I worked on an 87 B series motor shoe-horned into a late 70's or possibly early 80's Chevy 3+3 pickup. It didn't have a vacuum pump, but had the PS pump mounted direct to the timing case. I'm not sure about injection pump clearance though, as it was a VE motor.

I'm not sure what it was out of - possibly a school bus or something.
