I ordered a new crankshaft sensor from Geno's for my project 1997 3500 12v CTD. It looks exactly the same as my old one, but the plug is different and will not plug into my wiring harness. Can I remove the plug from my old sensor and wire it to my new sensor and plug it in ? Thanks in advance.

If you look at geno's website there was a mid year change on the plug end. Sounds like you have have gotten the wrong one. One is a flat 3 wire the other is a round 3 wire (I think). Either way check on Geno's site and you'll see. I just put a new crank senson on my truck and the build date was March 97, but it had the later style plug, so build date alone might not be the best indicator. A visual look before ordering is probably the best way

Good eye Chris!

acmunro. Return the one you have & get the correct one. If you can afford downtime on the truck.

A quick inspection of my trucks (3) 97's not sure of the build dates, but they all have the newer style plug like is listed for the 98 12 valve. Thanks for the info.
