Looking at old post I am not able to find what wires would be connected to emissions equipment. Since my truck does not have the parts for EGR I was wondering what wires can I get rid of. Pictures would help greatly. I currently have 3 sets of wires that are not connected to anything. I will attach a picture of them shortly.

My 98 Quad cab came with a EGR tube (California truck), after breaking two EGR tubes, I replaced the intake manifold and got rid of the EGR tube. I was a stupid idea to sell trucks in California, GM tried it also and it didn't work for them either. The only problem I have had is the check engine light comes on once in a while.

The egr was a 96-98 thing. All those years equipped with egr that had them removed will set a dtc but the 96 usually will not trip the light. No need to remove any wires. Even the federal models that were not equipped with egr had the wiring but came with a cap on the connector.

I have a friend with a 97 12v auto 2500 Calif model with EGR. Any advantage performace wise to removing the EGR? Exactly what needs replaced/done to accomplish this?

He wants to increase his stock power and already has an upgraded transmission, 4 inch exhaust with stock air box and wants to know how to up the power a little. I figured, since it's an auto, to go with a #5 plate and maybe 3K gov spring kit and an AFC air box but will the stock EGR limit his available HP gains?

I seem to remember that the EGR will limit how much HP gains can be had even if adding a new fuel plate etc.

I had a '98 CA model on which I blocked off the EGR. I did it because the EGR would open with back pressure from the exhaust brake and reduce brake pressure.

IMHO the real power inhibitor with the EGR was the restriction in the throat of the intake where the EGR connected. If you expect to see any real gains from it's removal you need to also install a 49 state intake or one of the custom ones. With expansion of smog testing, even that may not be a good idea.

My 98 egr is a clear tube that runs down toward the bottom of the truck, aka crankcase breather. When is CA going to fall off into the ocean???

Thanks guys. I was gonna help him but my friend is having a diesel shop (Brown's Diesel) do the EGR removal, new intake and exhaust manifolds, fuel plate, 3K GSK, stage 2 injectors, gages, timing to 16 and KDP. He already has an ATS transmission, AFE air filter.

Oh yeah, I agree, Calif sucks with all the smog crap they throw at us, among other things.
