Will the 12 valve bolt into a 06? *Got a chance to get a 06 with a bad motor with a standard trans. * *If the trans. and motor mounts bolt up the rest wouldnt be that hard to make work. *The 06 is a nice truck with only 200k miles. *I have a 97 standard that I can use. *It has the nv4500. *It could be a nice rig and not cost all that much if this would work. *Both have dual wheels. **

It's a standard trans should do fine . Do you have smog laws in your state? They are going to look at this as an 06

I am in Tex so no problem with smog. I looked at the truck today and it was raining so didnt even raise the hood I didnt know if maybe they changed something up to the point that it would be hard to change them out? Everything looked good about the body and the inside.

Thanks,

Harvey

Yeah, a lot of things has changed. The whole truck is run off the ECU in an 06. A lot of sensors will be gone and that will cause lights all over the dash, noises, and general mayhem. Physically putting it in there is not as big a problem as getting all the electronics happy so it doesn't look like a hack job.

IIRC, motor mounts will have to be rebuilt and I think the oil pan is different. Fan doesn't sit in the same position so shroud will not work directly.

no big deal..and you WILL NOT have a dash full of lights on,,MIL light yes,,but it's not hard to do,,one motor mount will need moved a bit, some guys use a plate,,tone ring from the CR engine and an extended bracket for the pickup,,you can get most everything working..cruise is a bit of a problem, and with a standard shift truck is even easier,,lots of people will tell you ,,it can't be done right,,but most have never tried,it's not that hard.

Speed control will never work, no way for it to work manual or auto.

Will have multiple lights on the dash until custom programming is applied.

2 years, bugs still present, a step backwards in drivability, not much intrinsic worth if traded, not enough efficiency difference.

There are MANY things to make a CR more efficient, if that is the quest, that do not require a hack job.

CR engine more reliable than the tried and tested 12 Valve...LOL...that's a good one,,
the idea for putting the relaible 12 valve motor in the 3rd gen truck is to have a truck that you can count on,,not a truck that will leave at the side of the road because you got a bad batch of fuel,,or some stupid sensor, the 12v will run on pretty much anything and like it,,trust me,,i have,,and i'm at 700,000 right now,,so you might say i tested this very well.as for the truck's value..for a a owner who wants reliability,,you can't beat a 12v,,i've seen converted trucks sell for way more than if it had the CR engine in it,,especialy to guy who work the truck for a living, $500.00 injector set that last near forever,,or $2500.00 CR injectors that are made out of glass, almost as fragile,LOL..the CR might me nice quiet,,but that's about it's got goin for it,,i'm assembling the parts now to do a mint 2007 Megacab dually 4x4 now,,and the potential buyer is waving serious cash in front of my face to try and get me to sell it,the perfect truck with a 12 valve engine,Dana axle to replace the cheap American axles, and a 8 foot bed,,would be an awsome rig,

had to change a injector solenoid on a CR tonight,,back up and running now,,i never have that problem with my 12 valves,,???

They are asking too muck for the 06 so this, so far, is only a though. This would have been only a pull truck so a 29 ford has enough warning lights for me. I have owned 5 12 valves and put 100k on each with no problem with motor or fuel system, not even an injector. They all were used when I got them with 200k on them. I am driving two of them both with over 300k miles on them now..You will have replace a transmission ever once in a while but they will just keep running and not break the bank. That is the only reason that i would consider such a thing. The newer ones cant seem to stay together. My new 2014 is more of a problems than my old 12 valves. When it gets past the warenty it will break the bank! Wont to thank everyone.

i never have that problem with my 12 valves,,???

Never had to pull an injector on a 12V, huh? Never EVER had one go bad or anything needed updated, huh? Either an extreme case of selective memory, or, flat out total BS.

How about reliability when seizing the rotor in the distribution head or scoring a pump bore from ingesting a little too much free water, I suppose that NEVER happens and a CR just quits if the humidity gets too high.

Rabid adherence to a situational opinion is understandable, but, now you are detouring into the ridiculous. The thread is about the challenges of the conversion, not your lack of experience and opinions. Bottom line is there are cons and when viewed critically it is hard to find a positive aspect.

i know how you feel...i have been used to my 12 valves and never having any powertrain issues,,with my CR megacab,,it's always something..senor this,,warniing light that, code here, code there,,crystal fragile injectors,my 12 valve 96 has been going strong for 700,000 now,i built a transmission with all DTT stuff 12 years ago, change injector for a bit more juice 2 years ago, stock ones were still going good, but that's it,my CR engined Megacab has cost me more in 2 years than my 12valve cost me it's entire life, had it since 2000 when i bought it at 24,000 miles, and you can't beat the drivebillity and low end torque of a 12v,,i do a lot of city driving too,,but i have to say,,that Megacab sure is nice inside and out,,

sorry Cerburisiam,,but yes,,my stock injectors where going good still 2 years ago when i replaced them with some used performance ones only because i got them cheap,,noty to mention this 12 valve has been running on home made biodiesel and all kinds of mixes for about 600,000...try that with a precious CR motor,,never seized anything in the P-pump,,still the original,,never been repaired for anything, you can't argue the fact that mechanical will always be more reliable than any electronics, and you can fix therm yourself too.dont need a scan tool,,or a DRB,or a trip to the dealer for a reflash,,LOL..so ya,,i'll take a mechanicaly injected motor any day over a finiky electronic one,

ya,,that's kind of a good point,,you can do pretty much anything you want if it's a comp truck, there is shortage of 12v engines in 3'rd gen pull trucks,,saw P-pumped CR engine not to long ago, custom gear housing looked a bit pricey,,but it was very nice looking work, hate to think what that cost,

Suppose this should be in the 12v. BigPapa when I said a pull truck I should have said I pull a 32x 6.8 cattle trailer 90% of the time. Pickup and trailer will weigh over 16k without a load. It sounds as if others have had the same luck with a 12v. Would like to share one story that wont work on many pickups. My alt. stopped and my batt. were dead. I was about 100 miles from home. So we took a string and tied kill switch to run. Gave it a push start and we were on our way home. I gave the 12v another plus, doesnt even need a batt. to run.

Aahhhhh.....

Different definitions of "pull truck".

cerb is correct about the electrical/sensor/ECM issues. The easy part will be making the engine fit in the truck. Making the truck work will be the hard part. Believe me, I've had my share of issues putting my old 12V in this 24V truck. Your use of a manual transmission will make it easier.

That said, I agree on the dependability and simplicity of the 12V. Mine has a bit over 500K miles on it. Never had the head off. Replaced injectors @ 300K miles ago for performance, not issues. Pump is the original and has not been rebuilt. I did put a plate in, 181 DV's, and some AFC mods, all for performance, not issues. Back when diesel went to $5.00/gal, before I modded the pump and replaced the injectors, I ran 3 gallons of filtered used motor oil in a tank of fuel for @ 50K miles with no problems. I'm currently at 350hp that will put a smile on my face at anytime. It doesn't use any oil or have any blow-by and gets over 20mpg at all times. Not going to catch me bad mouthing the 12V.
