My friend has a 94 dodge 12 valve CTD 4X4, the truck had a leaking rear main seal took it in and had the rear main seal replaced then the transmission lines go out replaced them. the truck starts fine runs but hesitates under load then stalls out.



the mechanic has said that the lift pump is moving fuel and they have flushed out the fuel lines and has now determined that the HP injection pump is bad. he says he hears something in the pump Now I have not been involved in the trouble shooting process. but i am curious as to if the infamous fuel shutdown solenoid might have something to do with it. or is there any other problim that i have not thought of ??

The low idle mite need adjusting. Autos 750-800 rpm in drive with a/c on.



Still mite be the injection pump but 10 to 15 minutes adjusting the idle is cheaper than an injection pump.
 
Could be low idle, also when the fuel shut-off is energized make sure that it is pulling the arm all the way up. Sometimes the pivot joint where the the shut off pull rod slides onto the arm will rust up and slowly reduce the travel.



The more the truck sits, the worse it gets.



That is what was wrong with the '97 I bought this winter.

I've seen a few that needed to be idled up.
I think the Bosch P7100 just gets lonely. That's what you get for being perfect.
 
I have a '97 and it did that the other day backing up a drive way i think i should check my idle adjuster also i just had my transmission rebuilt maybe he adjusted it to low.
 
I seriously doubt a transmission guy even knows where the idle adjustment screw is on a P7100. Not like you just stick a screwdriver on it.
 
i'm sorry you feel like that,he's not just a transmission guy he's one of the best transmission guy's around. If you want a great trans you go to him.
 
No disrespect intended to your transmission guy. I have one here that is one of the best and he gets a bit of info from me all the time. He still has trouble locating the idle screw for the p7100.

Most transmission repairs on these do not need inj pump adjustments, just cable, etc.
 
The problem is one of the plungers is sticking in the barrel causing the rack to not move. I have a 1994 that I bought a year and half ago. When driving home from buying it, I floored the engine going up a long hill on the Interstate Hwy. The truck accelerated strong since it had a #7 plate in it. Suddenly the truck fell on its tail and just about stopped in the hwy. This did not happen again for several months until the summer arrived with hot temperatures and got progressively worse with lower fuel in the tank or going up hill with a lower tank of fuel. Sometimes the engine would misfire for a few seconds and would stall when letting off the throttle.



I removed the lift pump and disassembled the check valves. The outlet check valve was stuck sideways and broken so I replaced the pump. This did not fix the problem. Next I replaced the suction lines at the tank and also inspected the fuel module in the tank. Next, I removed the suction line at the firewall. The transmission had been rebuilt before I bought the truck. The mechanic did not place the metal fuel suction line into a bracket at the firewall and it looked like the metal line was bent. This caused the rubber suction line to be at a 45 degree angle as it came off the metal line. During low fuel conditions and under heavy throttle the fuel line would suck shut. The fuel line was flattened in the area. Also, since this was above the transmission and next to the firewall it was hard to see. Unfortunately, I believe this caused my second problem.



When the weather gets hot (above 90) and I drive for more than an hour the throttle begins hanging as the engine misfires. It can hang wide open causing a runaway or when closing the throttle resulting in a stalled engine or anywhere in between. Also, when the misfire is going on, you can hear a loud and distinct ticking noise from the engine area. The ticking is due to the lifter hitting the stuck plunger. I believe one of the plungers got scored when the injector pump was running out of fuel due to the collapsed fuel line.



For my fix, I am looking for a 215 used pump and in the meantime optimistically waiting for cooler weather.

I would also check the uptake filter in the tank. Try gently blowing back with air. My BIL had this problem on his 97.
