I have a 97 12 valve 1 ton manual transmission dually. when under a med to heavy load the throttle starts to hop a little which makes the truck jump. if i rest my foot next to the transmission housing it seems to help. my mechanic says all my throttle springs are ok and not broken. on bumpy roads (potholes) it is alot worse i have to either take my foot off the pedal or mash on it. im worried whats going to happen if this keeps up. does anyone know about this or suggestions to fix it. Thanks

Does the pump have a 3K Governor Spring Kit in it? If it does each of the two (2) springs are one (1) click to tight on adjustment.

thanks ill look at these do you know where to find more throttle springs? Our local dealership is telling me you cant buy them anymore.

It has been a while but last time I neede one they were still available. Some versions superseded. I am sure if you posted up your vin mike could find the cummins part numbers for the springs

Go to a Cummins Dealer, your dealership didn't try very hard. I used the Engine Serial number from my '97 which is an automatic. I am pretty sure that a 5-speed truck will take the same springs.

If you want to make sure then e-mail your engine serial number or the last 8 of the trucks vin to me or post it on here. -- email address removed --

Item # 8 on the illustration below.

Cummins Part Number 3931510

116 on hand at the Cummins Factory

Should cost $16. 00 to $18. 00 each.

I had the same problem pulling my 5th wheel at 7000#. Dodge did make a kit to repair that problem, but none were available when I had the problem. The kit did look like the major thing they did was install a heavier spring. I went to the hardware store and found a spring that I could mount on that linkage. I havn't had a problem since.
