Archived 12 valve won't idle

Engine is hard to start (turns over many times) and idle is eratic with engine eventually quitting. Even when running it does not seem to have any power - it will die like a gasser if the clutch is let out.

Is your fuel filter plugged? Lift pump bad? What is your fuel pressure? Sounds like you are not getting much fuel.

Is your idle too low? Minimum is 750 RPM with the AC on. 800 is better. Give it a little pedal to start it and see if that helps.

Fuel filter is new - it will start and run up to 1500-2000 rpm w/no load and I think i could get it out on the road but am not sure where when it will leave me. When you take foot off the pedal it will die. Last week it idle'd fine (about 800).

It's very seldom the fuel filter or lift pump on a 12 valve. It is probably an air leak if the idle is where it should be. I think all 12 valves should have a fuel pressure gauge just for things like your problem. So take a look at this before going any further:
