A couple of questions for the electrical guru's on the forum.

I have a 1200 watt inverter in my RV for running the stereo/TV system only. The way the system is set up, it is a pain to switch to internal power when connected to shore power. Does anyone know of a switch similar to a battery bank switch that could be wall mounted and used to switch between shore & inverter AC?

Also, my inverter, a Tripp Lite PV1200 was salvaged from an ambulance. When running, it creates so much interference on the AM radio that it is useless. Is there any type of line filter that would correct this or is the electronic noise ooming from the inverter and being picked up by the radio in such a way as to preclude the use of a filter. There is no noise on FM, CD or TV audio output.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

That inverter will quickly discharge your battery. I use a Honda EU2000 inverter to run my AC and simultaneously charge my battery. It is pretty quiet.

Usually people use an automatic transfer switch, to switch from a shore power to generator or UPS. You will only need the 30A switch and they are around $40-50. Go to any camping store or some place on the web like Camping World. This isn't something to screew around with, if not done right someone can be killed from this. The switch is simple to install, so do it right. Al it takes is for something to go wrong, and have a back feed that heats up something that normaly wouldn't be hot. Like the male end of your shore power cable.

You might want to browse a marine store, they may have a switch that you're looking for.

Can't help too much on the hash noise the AM radio is putting out, but you should verify that the inverter power cables are as short as they can be, that they're not routed through anything that can create electronic noise, and that everything has a proper ground. Maybe mounting an external AM antenna away from the action may help.
