or should I wait longer before using it? I take quite a few short trips in the truck, but have had it to 1500* a couple times  (Quadzilla + mountain I live on). So, is it ok to put in the good stuff yet, or should I wait?

Personally, I think you are fine to put in the Amsoil. I have installed Amsoil in several trucks with this kind of mileage. My own truck was introduced to it at 8,500 miles and now has 50,000 plus. :)

Just my opinion,

I don't see any reason why you couldn't switch to Amsoil the day you drive it home. There is this rediculous myth that you should "break in" on dino. FYI your truck already has synthetics in the diffs from the factory. There are also tons of new cars shipping new from the factory with synthetic fills in the crankcase. My '05 got the synthetic treat meant at its first oil change (5k miles). I also did the diffs and t-case in Amsoil at that time. I am over 30k now and the truck runs great.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Cummins recommend 15 to 20K before you switch to synthetic. If you use synthetic too soon, the internal parts never can make the "fit together" adjustment. Therefore, the engine will never brake-in.

I can't recall how many miles Cummins recommends b4 using synthetics but I put mine in at 10,500. It's been just fine. It probably wouldn't hurt to go really run it some----ya know get the revs up plenty and put a good foot in it. As I recall, the high turbo/cylinder pressures really help run the rings in. I know it's kinda hard to do that without running over the top of the traffic in front of you-----geez, shifting at 1900-2000 rpm trumps traffic but if you get the chance, the motor really seems to like the workout.

my truck had around ±10,000km on the engine when i switched to synthetics [that's ±6210 miles or so??] and i have no worries about it. .
