12V Fuel Pump Relay ?

The 12 V has a Fuel Pump relay in the the relay box under the hood. Can someone tell me what this relay controls since the 12V has a mechanical lift pump. I have been having some problems with the engine missing and acting crazy when I run it hard for extended periods. It occurs so suddenly I'm almost convinced it

it heat/electrical related... some how!

Once it dies or is shut off it will start back and run okay for a while. I just installed a fuel pressure gauge this past week so

I can keep a better eye on it. Any help would be appreciated.

It powers the shut-down solenoid... .

There is another relay next to it labeled "Auto Shut-down". Does

this also control the selenoid ?

i thought i read the ASD doesnt do anything on the diesel trucks. its for a distributor signal or something like that in the gasers.

Try this at home if you are feeling a bit dashing:

Take each one out while the truck is running and see what happens.....
