Hello,

A friend of mine is thinking of replacing his GM 6. 5TD in his Hummer H1 with either a Duramax or Cummins motor. I have a CR CTD in mine, but for simplicity sake, I suggested he look at a gen II 12v. With simple mods, what kind of power can he expect from it? With the appropriate adapter, he will probably bolt it up to his 4L80e and use a Compushift TCM.

His motor is rated around 190hp/430 Ft/lbs, and I think he would be happy with 300-350hp, and 600 ft/#.

Any thoughts? What should he look for (or stay away from)?

Thanks.

My '96 as a #5 fuel plate FF, 16* timing, and DDP2 injectors.

That gets 355 Hp and 970 Ft/Lb. Click on the 355 /970 in the signature below to see the dyno chart before and after the injectors.

The mods listed is all that is done for the 9something torque? I have been on the fence for some time on getting the injectors just for the milage increase purported. This is more data telling me to go ahead.

Right. I put the DDP2 injectors in to gain fuel mileage, and I have not seen that yet.

Before, at a steady 65 MPH I could get 22 and sometimes just over 23 MPG.

When I first installed the DDP2's, I had lots of black smoke, and thought I'd lost 2 or 3 MPG. After repeated playing with the AFC and the star wheel most of the smoke is gone and off-idle flat spots aren't too bad. I need to do some more work, but at least most of the smoke is gone.

Now, mileage? I'm still doing 250 mile test runs. I think the mileage is *about* back where it was. It's certainly not better (yet). Best I got yesterday was 21. 3 over 275 miles but that route involved a lot of hills. I'll do a flat road run in the next few days.

I just got a SnapOn SP500 injection timing tool kit, so I'm going to verify the timing. I'll set it to 16. 5* if it's not there already.

So, stay tuned for the 11 O'Clock news :)
