Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) 12V info on building

I'm a 24v er and know almost nothing about the 12Vs. A friend of mine bought a 66 power wagon that was wifes g-pa's. The goal is to put the body on a newer frame and axles and build the crap out of a 12V to put in it. He isn't afraid to spend a little cash on the project and wants to get 800 -1000 ponies when its all done. I'm looking for the best manuals or books to learn. I can handle injectors, turbos, headwork, cams, and stuff like that, but know nothing about tuning/adjusting the pump. I know thats where the power is at and would really like to learn as much as possible. Any advice is welcome. It will take a year or two to finish, but it should be awesome. Plus, he can always throw the body back on the original chassis and have the collector value.

I would also go to your local cummins store and get a service manual on the motor it will tell you everything you want to know Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo.
