Cummins gave me the wrong filters too. I have been told that the 24v filter was modified to withstand the higher oil pressure of the 24v and that the 12v filter could fail by the parts guy at Cummins. Seems there is a mix-up on the part # from Fleetguard on which filter (Stratopore) fits the Dodge 24v application. I would change it ASAP.

I read a post on here someplace a few months back about a guy loosing an engine due to a filter coming apart and blocking oil passages. Dont remember all the specifics, but I do recall someone chiming in about knowing someone else this happened to.

Don't base your thoughts off my experience, but I was using the Fleetgard 12V filter before any mention of a filter problem existed... Lucky for me. . nothing bad happened during that time. Point being, it does not mean instant failure... But you may not want to bet the farm on it.

You ought to be fine with the 12v oil filter.
I used that same filter on my 24v's during 1999 and the beginning of 2000 because the Cummins shop couldn't stock the correct 24v filter very often. I've never had a problem with the 12v filters when I used them.
