I hope that my 24V is as tuff as these 12V, here's why. My friend Kevin has a "96" 3500 stake body dump that he bought new, it now has 66,800 miles on it,he's in landscaping. Needless to say everybody that works for him drives it. We got talking about our diesels,to make a long story short,up until yesterday,he had never changed his air filter, and only changed his oil 3 times. Up until a month ago,I changed his fuel filter for the very first time. He and his employes NEVER idol the motor to cool down, they just shut it off, they don't ,wait to start lite to go out,hop in,turn key, and go. If this isn't abuse I don't know what is,at least in my eyes anyway. I just hope my Cummins holds up as well as his. BTW, the only time it's been to the dealership is when he picked it up new. Mike

I have worked for, and with, quite a few landscapers over the years and maintence is last on almost all of their list. I was always amazed that their equipment ran at all

66K is very low miles!

Cam if your friend is going to keep the landscaping truck he might find that instead of going 4 to 500000 miles before an engine rebuild the engine could give problems much sooner. Not enough can be said about proper maint.

In warm weather (over 59 degress) the grid heaters don't cycle anyways. The wait to start light will still illuminate becasue of the "bulb check" feature. So get in and crank 'er up.

Bob , glad your getting some use out of them, and they are handy when ya need um.

Skydiver , i'm like you ,scheduled maintenance is the key !!

Takes me this long to fasten my seatbelt anyway. I usually turn the key, fasten and then crank. Just my style thats all.

I made a habit of doing that because it never gets cold where I live. I was back in Provo, UT in December a few years ago and just jumped in the truck at 18 degrees. Cranked it up like I always do. It started up ok, but it didn't like it. Banged around and smoked for a while.
