Trying to decide whether or not to switch over to 6 volt deeeeep cycle batteries or stay with 12 volt deep cycle. Either way, would like to know opinions on good quality batteries and where to get them - preferably in Canada. However, knowing who makes a good battery, means I can look for a distributor up here.

Definitely go for the 6 volt setup, I changed mine about 6 years ago from two 12s to four 6s, what a difference in dry camping. The seem to hold a charge forever. Still on the original set of 6s. Mine were from a local battery dealer ( their own brand). All I had to do was make some cables, battery tie down bracket and relocate my engine battery as the four 6s fit where the three 12s had been. It is in my RV so I had an engine battery. The only downside I see is battery replacement time - 4 verses 2.

My friends and I all use the 6v, golf cart batteries. They are supposed to be heavier-duty and hold more elec. than the 12v, deep-cycle. We buy ours at Sam's Club (warehouse store for Walmart) for about $47. 00 ea. The best ones are supposed to be Trojan's. I heard Trojan invented them and are still building the best. Everyone that I have talked to in the solar panel industry highly recommends them. Hope this helps! Joe.
