While working on my fuel selenoid, I also removed the air intake for better access. I took advantage of the clearer views to inspect my linkage and throttle cable for wear.

Both ends of the throttle lever rod are getting a bit sloppy. The rear socket looks replaceable but the front looks pressed in. The large torsion spring and lever seem sloppy too.

The throttle oscillation can be bad when I pull my gooseneck even when the load appears to be optimally loaded.

What is the best way to rebuild the linkage? Is there a kit that includes the majority of the parts? Thanks in advance.

There is a recall for throttle linkage. I don't know if it applies to your truck, but if it does then you can get the whole mess replaced by Dodge for free.

I installed the TSB to correct the oscillation and keep the old linkage. I don’t remember what all was replaced, but I’ll run out to the shop tonight and see what I have left and let you know. I just might have what you need. Even if you don’t drive an Appaloosa I’ll still help! :D

Joe, I finally scheduled the truck for monday to fix the hood latch. I will ask the service writer to run the vin# and see what he says.

DBR, thanks for the offer. What can I say, with actually only 1. 5 quarters and 10. 5 arabs I do more cleaning then driving anyway.

Another thing that you might want to check in the linkage is the lever that attaches to the pump. There are two screws with 8mm heads that can get loose. If they do the linkage gets really slopply. This lever is the one that the rear end of the linkage connects to. If these screws are loose and one falls out the ride can get exciting in a hurry!

Thanks, I will go over those too. I think come warm weather it's time for a major going over on this side of the engine. I am going to pull the starter, fuel filter etc so I have some operating room. I have minor seepage on my lift pump gasket against the block, I want to replace the upper fuel heater o-ring, replace the fuel lines again, and now the linkage.

steps 52-60 of that throttle cable recall tell the "mechanic" to adjust and replace if need the TPS. make sure the dumba!@es do it..... scott.

QRTRHRS,

If you are going to do all that work on the left side of the engine, you might want to consider removing the plastic wheel well liner. It's not that hard to do ( you should have spare fasteners, just in case) and should give you lots of additional access room.

I got the throttle linkage recall parts kit from my dealer and plan to put them on in the spring when the weather warms up.

Radixr, thanks for the advice. I do have extra plastic fasteners from NAPA.

Does that parts kit vary with the CPL # do you know? What did the kit include?

Throttle Linkage Kit

QRTRHRS,

The kit includes: -- cable assembly, return spring and balls and sockets for the throttle rod and cable ends. In short, everything in the linkage that moves. There is just one return spring -- I would assume it's for the throttle lever, not the pump lever.

I'm not sure, but I would be surprised if it varied with the CPL#. There is nothing on the package that would indicate it is CPL specific. The Part # is CANZ9700.

radixr, thanks for the info. Now at least I won't be completely in the dark when I talk to the "stealer".

I am with you on the warm weather. I should be okay until then too. Just need to keep it on the "to do" list.

QRTRHRS:

I had the throttle rod break and bought a new one and Dodge ordered me one that I felt obligated to take. Now I have an extra. I took the truck in for a clutch install(South Bend) on the mechanics. off day. While I was there he pulled the recall then and I got another new one. If you want, you can have this one for what I paid Dodge. $41. 00

I have a 97 that broke the throttle rod , I-4 inside lane in traffic , 85 to idle. Found some stiff wire on side of road. ( now I keep the piece of fuel line handy) Dodge Daytona said no recall on linkage rods. Do you have anything in writing. Thanks RJ

RJ:

I don't remember the recall no. but the throttle cable and rod were included. What I ordered was the rod, ends and adjustment nuts. When I had the clutch installed, the mechanic did the recall and said the rod was included. I said I have a new one. Now I got a newer one. There are some post that have discussed the re-call #. .

Thats all I know. Sorry.

While at the stealer yesterday for the hood latch recall (finally got around to it), I asked the service writer about any TSB's or recalls on my 97' for the throttle linkage. He came up with neither. O'well, don't need the dealer much anyway.

Fritz's web site lists the part number for the throttle linkage kit as 05011726AA for the 96--98 (BR/BE) Ram truck and radixr posted the number CANZ9700.

Anyone familiar with these numbers have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
