Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) 12v valve adjustment

when is the recommended time spans or milage on a12v that the valves should be adjusted my engine at idle seems to chatter more than I can remember . could this be valves or possibly something else ,only heard at low speed once cruising there is no sound performance is great thanks truck is a1996 manual

They recommend every 24,000 on the 12v engine. Most guys I know do it every 50k after the first 24k and don't have to adjust it much.
