4bt and Industrial Injection PS62/12

Very sweet 12v/NV4500/NP205 '80 Chevy 4x4 cc dually

Finnally gettin the 12valve cummins in my 99 f-250... Any idea on how to hook up a dodge altenator to the ford... i have a dodge voltage regulator. . is that all i need and how do i hook it into the ford system?

Here is the wiring diagram I used in my swap. I used a '89 Cummins in my swap, but I think they used the same alternaror for a lot of years. The two blue wires from the ignition switch can be tied to a "hot" wire with key on from the ignition switch.

Ok so going by that diagram , i have the regulator and the pigtail that plugs into it... so the top wire comes from the altenatore and the bottom wire goes to the ignition?

well i did all this and went by the diagram, but it doesnt seem to be working, anybody have any other diagrams or can you tell me how you hooked yours up? this is really holding me up right now...

Here's how I did my Ford and Chevy

There's a 12v supply wire from the Bat. (always HOT) to a 15lb N/C (Correction, N/O) oil pressure switch

Then from oil pressure switch to the lower lug on Alt. which is the BLUE wire terminal on the back of the Alt.

Cut that Dodge electrical terminal off and go directly to the pins on the Reg. (Those factory connector's will give ya hell because inside the thing, the wire to plug on lug crimp can go bad,... . If yoy question the connection just cut off the rubber outer case and check it out)

Make sure the blue and green wires from the alt have no other wires spliced into them and they go directly to the reg.

Pictures of what I'm blabberin about

Cut all of the dodge stuff out between the Alt and Reg. and new run wires directly to Reg.

I buy junky ol' Dodge and yank the motors out, put #3 bellhousing on and run them on skid's using the Dodge Alt's

Here's the way I hook up the Skid motor's

The Brown wire comes from a oil pressure switch on the other side of motor,... You can "TEE" the blue wire into that 12v switched supply and run it to the center terminal on the Reg. The Green wire goes directly to the other terminal on the Reg.

This is the most fool proof way I know,. . Every time I try to run the switch 12v through the trucks key switch it will more then likely give you hell because all the other noisey circuits the key switch runs

Again,... cut that crappy 15 year old Dodge plug off at the Reg. It will tear you a new *** trying to figger this out

The 12v switched supply just need to be splice in the blue wire somewhere

The first pic of the wire being connected and the lug on the back alt was the easiest and shortest lenght of wire,..... You gotta watch out,... That stud can twist off! Then yer screwed!

ok I figured it out, One way is switched from the key and the other is switched from the oil pressure switch right?

I think that is what is going on. I think CumminsDoofus ment to use a normally open swich that closes with oil pressure, sending power to the alternator. He must be adding a switch in somewhere. If I recall correctly there are three pins on the stock (at least on my '89 engine) Cummins switch. One has a variable resistance to ground that changes with the oil pressure that I tied into the Ford wire that went to the gasser sending unit. The other two were on a normally closed switch that opens with oil pressure. I assume these hooked to a idot light in the Dodge so the light would come on with no oil pressure. I have had zero problems with my alternator wiring it like is shown in the picture. For my "hot" wire from the ignition switch I used the wire that powered the Ford Duraspark ignition module.

AWard. Did you get yours working? Sorry I wasn't any help, I never saw that you were having problems untill just now.

Well after frying my altenator somehow i took it to the local starter/alternator shop and they fixed me up with a nice internal regulator for pretty cheap. Works well, i would recommend doing this over trying to wire in a regulator and all of that stuff. Thanks!!!
