Two things:

Can I on a shoestring budget (say, $3,000) get my 97 12v to run a 14 sec qtr mile and with a gear change join the 130 club in Utah?

Give us more truck specs, auto,5speed,?gearing. 2wd,or 4wd. I feel if you can do all the work yourself you should be able to get in the high 14's with no trouble at all, engine wise. The trans if an auto will blow your budget, and a good clutch will cost a grand. or close. I wouldnt try to do this if you have only 3K,a truck in the 14's will break parts eventually ,and if your maxed out,how you going to fix the truck? With the right mods,a 3. 54 truck with a GSK,should be abl to run 14's and go 130 mph without changing gears. you;ll need to hit close to 4000RPMs to do this, good luck.

if its an auto... ... ... NO it will take nearly all your budget just to get a transmission to hold.

if its a fiver... ... YES, 4KGSK(125), 370's(400-600), 191's(125), bigger turbo (650-1700) and a good clutch(900-1100).

I cant believe i let my wife force me into this money pit of a slushbox. $2K just for a transmission  that still barely outruns a well shifted 5psd.

Well, I think it is obvious you won't be able to do it with your auto:( (not on that budget I mean)

And if you are looking to hit 130mph with your 4. 10's, you will be turning about 3750rpm, just FYI.

I think it's time to lower the expectations, or raise the budget. It's your choice:)

Actually I think you can get there, with your $3K budget, assuming you put it all into power enhancements. However your transmission will not last but a few weeks, and engine meltdown will soon follow.

More realistic:

$3. 0K - transmission Upgrades

$1. 2K - Camplate, AFC Kit, 4K Gov Kit w/ 60# springs, 370's, and delivery valves.

$4. 0K - 4" Exhaust, Air Intake System, PDR HX40 or bigger turbo, cat-be-gone, Cam, Head

( Cam and head are optional depending on power level, reduce by $2K )

running 14s

mr. Gifford i live in utah and that sounds like a good southern Utah name, are you a LaVerkinit(Iknow the rest of you dont understand what im saying) But back to the point what is this 130 club?I have normal run in the low 13s,But there is is problems with this because clutches dont like it. (and autos hate it more. )ive replaced 3 clutches in the past year! Icant make enough money to by the mcleods or the top of the line. But burned up two 1000Lbs torgue clutches. When you get to autos it gets worse. If you are locate give me a line. Your friend b beatty.

13's

there's no way your running 13's on what mods you have presented us with my friend:eek: ... with my {rebuilt stock} auto transmission and a baby 160 pump on a 95' with 3. 55 gears i'm turning mid 14's. Let's do the math... . and don't take this personal, please;)

no problem!!

My truck with a #6 plate, 3000 gsk,370's,STOCK TRANS,and boost elbow, constantly ran 15. 15 to 15. 30 at 94 mph at 2500 ft level with no problems. will run it in Vegas at the end of the month for the first time with the new trans and converter. hoping for high 13. 00 or low 14. 0 times. :D
