2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission 134-a Recharge ????

Hi all



I have a stupid question. .



I think that my A. C. needs a recharge but I am not to sure. my father in law has alot of 134-a sitting around his garage so I thought that maybe I could recharge the system my self instead of paying the dealer to do it. The only problem is I don't have clue what to do or what to check for. So my question is how do I check to see if I am low on 134 and how do I recharge it??



Any help would be greatly appreaciated espeacily because it is starting to get real hot. . Thank you for your time

To do it right you'd need at least a set of highside/lowside gauges with a coonecting tube for the cans of refridgerant. Without gauges if you know the system is low you could do a mickey mouse recharge with only a hose with the right connections for can and system. They might sell such a connecting hose at an auto parts store.



But if you are really in the dark about A/C systems you'll be WAY smarter to just pay the $25. -$50. at a qualified station.

Thanks for the respone and I think that I will take your advice.

I do not want to risk blowing out all of my seals by trying to jerry rig this thing. I will probably spend just as much buying the correct parts... . compared to going and getting it done. . Thanks for the advice

Yeah, I couldn't find the darn low side pressure fitting for the life of me... . took it to the shop... $24. 99 later she ice cold again!

Just buy a recharge kit at walmart, around $20 gets you everything you need, gauge, hose, refrig. Good luck. Very simple only takes 5min. later... .....

I've gotta' admit, I bought mine at Wal-mart also. The auto parts store said they couldn't sell me the R134. Oh well, their loss! Works fine now!

Yep there ya go! I was carded at napa for my CFC license once for 134A I gave it to him, but that had to be the first time I EVER was "Carded" for 134 :-laf :-laf



The DIY kits have the guage / hose setup and two cans for about 50 bucks. Easy to do but depending on what the weather is ya just may want to warm up the can before dumping. It's a system dependant charge so the truck has to be running so get everything set warm up the can, pierce the can and do a wicked quick purge of the line and click it on and open the valve again and dump away!

I thought you anly needed a liscence for R-12 and R-22. I have bought R-134A before and I'm only 20 years old. I've never bought illegal drugs before, but that's what I felt like I was doing trying to buy some R-12 for my '76 Power Wagon. Finally got some after a few calls to my shady cousin.

You shouldn't need a license for R-134a.



and atleast ya guys didn't tell him to put Duracool, Red Tek, or some other "refridgerant" like that in there.

Well ran down to Wal Mart like some of you suggested and much to my suprise they had everything that I needed. Got home and recharged the system. Know I can hang meet in the cab it gets so cold. Thank you all VERY much for the help. I would have died this summer.
