All I am thinking about is breaking into the 14 second range. It is going to be my goal in life. High 14's would make me happy. #ad

Problems:

1) 7200 lbs (can't do a whole lot about it)
2) 285's for tires and 3. 55 rear diff. (Can install 245's on race day only if necessary)
3) Only a #6 TST.

Will the classic combination that alot of people around here do it? The classic seems to be:

1) 370 diamond B injectors
2) 16cm turbo housing, possibly HX40???
3) 4 inch exhaust
4) Piers governor spring kit
5) AFC spring kit
6) BIG TST plate.
7) Different air induction system, Physcotty or equivalent.
8) A little tinkering with timing... .
9) Transmissin upgrades, currently running BD valve body and 215L torque converter.
10) Trip to BD for a tune up! #ad

11) Whatever else I am missing

Last but not least, driving techniques. What or how do you guys launch when turning your 14 second et's? Please don't tell me I will have to settle for 16's!

Lets here it, what have you done to get into the 14's!

See sig for more info...

Swamp Donkey,

Teds Jennaty's shop foreman's 7150 lb Dooley needed 481hp & 971 ft lbs of torque to run 14. 32@91. 24 mph.

Getting your truck to 400hp should be easy.

Adam,

That sounds to easy. Looks like I am missing lpg though. I'm still a little scared of propane. Were you launching in 4wd at that point?

Anyone else,
Have you run any 1/4 mile times with anything close to the "Classic" combination?

Swamp Donkey,

Why don't you make a low cost experiment. Go get a TST #4 & a 16cm housing. Accidentally slip the #4 all the way forward & keep your eyes glued to the EGT guage.

Yeah, and he needed slicks to do that too. I'm running 15. 5s spinning my all terrains straight through 5th in 2WD. She ran a one time only unofficially not backed up (due to not wanting to break the transfer case) 14. 283 in 4WD HI and it launched so hard that I thought I was gonna break something. I make all the point I'll ever need with the 11 second racer running at 6200 lbs. My 4X4 tips the scale at around 7800 lbs.

at the point of running the 15. 2 I was not running in 4wd. When I ran the 14. 2's for the first time I was but I was able to run 14. 4's in 2wd. I was also able to get down to 14. 2 in 2wd and a slipping clutch.
I can't wait to run with my new bd auto. I expect high 12's. #ad

From what I can see, power is not the problem, but traction and launching techniques seem to have a lot to do with things. Oh the joys of a front end heavy truck!

DieselB59, your trap speed of 97 mph says you are making lots of power, but the et must be because of lack of traction. Sounds like I will have the power to do it, but with my limited driving experience and possible lack of traction, that is where the downfall will be. I always have 4wd! #ad

Power was never the problem until it became the problem---> slipping the rear wheels in 4th and 5th gears at 70-90 mph is not fun and not safe. Rear wheels have the tendency of wanting to be up front when they break loose at such speeds. So the e. t. has been suffering due to it lately. I made that one run in 4WD and shall never do it again until I get the money to just have a spare transfer case laying around.

So what's wrong with using slicks?
It is all part of the ET equation.
We run 14. 80 on snow tires, installed the slicks and dropped down to 14. 32.

Chris maybe you should try some, 97 mph has 13's written all over it.

I'll see you in the 13's this coming season!

You're right. However, with the way things go I'll end up spending close to a grand on wheels and slicks and front wheels and front tires (can't be running radials mixed with bias ply slicks). Then there's the input shaft, and I'd have to get one of Dave Mitchell's input shafts. I'd like to say that I'll see you in the 13s too, but I just bought a house and that eats into all the fat I used to be able to donate to the truck. One day... ... .

swamp donkey , #ad
a DTT TC would help #ad
. i went a 1/2 sec faster after it and their VB , i'm running 14. 94 @ 88. 67 mph , no slicks , launching in 4wd , the autos have the advantage of building boost at the line stand on the brake , bring up boost to 15 psi with tcase in 4wdhi , when you see the 60 ft time flash on the scoreboard at the end of the track slap it into 2wd , do not lift the throttle , just keep it planted and let the trans do the work ... do NOT lock your TC with that switch . i went a sec faster using the technique i just gave .

i am going to run slicks this season along with aftermarket axles , i need to be able to drive home #ad
, that should get me down to lo 14's ... but heres a warning , 14's was so easy , (thought it would take alot , but it was less than i thought and only cost me 3 grand ), that it's leaving me wanting more ... #ad
