I was racing a VW on the interstate yesterday and my engine temp got a little above 190 probobly 205-210 so i decided to drive normal and it went back down to 190.

when i got off the interstate and started driving around town it stayed at 140-150 , i got to my destanation, shut it down, and left.

about an hour later got back on the highway and it stayed between 140-160

Now last night i drove about 10-15 miles on the Interstate and then on some back roads with some hills, and the only temp. i saw was 140

the gauge does moves very little, but it moves

What Gives

This was an easy fix :-laf the rubber gasket was ripped and part of it was stuck inbetween the t-stat so it held it open :-laf

McCRam as for you i dont know what to tell you since your on your 2 stat.

Thanks for the update. Glad it was an easy fix for you. I have been perplexed. This one worked fine for a while, and now it acts like the tstat is stuck open again. Ill probably pull it out and test it. I'm going to stop and get a new temp sensor and tstat tomorrow so I have all the parts I need this weekend.

Where are you getting your stat. from??? is it a cummins part #???

did you replace all the rubber seals in the housing??

stat#5014568aa

rubber seal#4797255

rubber seal#4761291

I don't have the part #'s on hand, but they were cummins parts. I'm going to get my infra red temp gun out tomorrow to see if the sensor is reading properly. I hear the fan kicking on and off like normal, even when it is reading 150 degrees.

With the infra red gun all temps are around 180 190 degrees. So since the gauge is reading around 160, I am going to assume that the sender is bad, and replace it. I'm still not positive about this.
