Its not possible to lock the torque converter during slow speed backing with a heavy trailer. The problem is the lousy passenger car gear ratios of the 48RE as Bill Stockard explained early in this thread.

I spent $6400 having a "bullet proof" DTT transmission built by a DTT rebuilder and my '06 Ram had 4. 10 gears. It still overheated the ATF when backing and maneuvering my trailer on soft ground.

Well got back from my "break in" trip to Lake Cuyamaca south east San Diego. Lots of hills truck did well nice firm shifts didn't get too hot did run cooler than before. I did download Smarty into "tow" mode no hi EGT and seemed to pull home nicer could even accelerate up the grades . Thanks for everybodys input and help . HB trying to stay away from backing up steep hills too. Thinking about 4:11 gears and maybe a ARB locker.
