OMG!!!!

Our local dealer charges 1500. 00 for the 15,000 mile service on Diesels. You would be surprised at how many lemmings actually think they have to have it performed to keep warranty.

$850 for what!!?? Why'd you do that!!??

I got charged $550 for a transmission service (filter and 6 qts of Mopar ATF+4), front and rear diff oil changes with 6 qts Mopar synthetic 75W-90 and a x-fer case oil change (3qts of Mopar ATF+4) along with a coolant flush and fill with 2 gal of Mopar pink antifreeze.

They let me watch: I watched the tech throw away my perfectly good overmolded diff cover seals and use RTV instead. Then I watched him not fill the rear all the way to the top of the fill hole. He only installed 3 qt w/a dirty suction gun as the Mopar gear oil comes in the same plastic qt bottles as regular motor oil (no funnel at top). I had to add an additional 40 oz of gear oil myself to fill the rear pumpkin, then I got the PML covers and installed them.

I'm not complaining... It was a valuable double learning experience for me. I learned to do it myself (its very easy) and I also learned that if you want it done right, do it yourself...

Its not really the tech's fault. They get flat rate and if they beat the time, they get extra pay and the 15,000 mile service repair time is very easy to beat by 1/2 the allowed time.

Its definately a profit center for the dealership because they get you for the retail cost of the parts and for the labor.

There is a lesson in there. For $35 a year you could have learned how to do it from the membership.

Heck, even I can do it in my driveway and I can't pick up a tool without breaking something.

Sorry to hear that you had to part with all that cash. Think of how much beer you could have bought!

Swift Dodge in Davis, CA, charged $90. 95 for 30K service including fuel filter change. I did supply my own oil & oil filter however. Paid same amount for 15K service. I think this is a very fair price.

Just did mine today... $175 in fluids... thou I did the transmission and xcase as well, and used amsoil... . I also put a mag-hytec on the rear, and fast coolers on the 5600. . so a bit more fluid than stock... but the amsoil also lasts longer, so it evens out. I also just did a $175 oil change, but thats also Amsoil HDD and a bypass system... . I also just put the Baldwin 5 micron fuel filter in last week... so i should be good to go for a while... .

I dont let anyone do the service on any of my rigs unless i have to... They dont use as good a fluid but charge like they do.

Some years ago I received those coupons from a Dodge dealer I bought my new slant 6 pick up from, so I thought take advantage of the deal, check battery bla bla bla. About a week later my friend's vehicle failed to start, battery low, so I decided to jump start from my vehicle, but by experience disconnected the cables from the battery, boy was I shocked the post was thick with crud. Why do people STEAL?
