I had this same thing happen on my 94' CTD, and the filter only had 1500 miles on it since it was changed! The engine had NO POWER, and my speed dropped way down to 10 MPH! This occurred only 5 miles from when the truck was last fueled. When I discovered the filter problem, it was half full of water!

Went back to fuel station and complained, but manager would not do anything about it, so wrote to the headquarters (Flying J) and they sent me a coupon for 35 gallons of Diesel fuel and two meal tickets at one of their restaurants.

I always keep an extra fuel filter on board, as well as spare oil and oil filters!

To pull codes all you have to do is quickly move the ignition key to the start position 3 times without starting the truck. The codes will be displayed where your mileage is recorded. If no codes are found it will say "done". On the manual transmission trucks you must hold the igniton key release button in while turning the key to start.

I found another trick too and I'm not sure exactly what it all does. If you hold the trip odometer button in while turning the key to start the dash will go into a test mode testing every light and gauge in the display. It then came up with something like CC 00 00 which I thought might mean "clear codes" but I'm not sure. Anyone know for sure?

Something else you might consider doing if anyone has they're trucks serviced by anyone besides yourself. You might want to sign your name or mark all filters so that you can tell if they did the work that they charged you for. I have heard of several occasions that this has happened. Just a little added insurance and that away you know with out a dought. ;)

It appears the Quickcheck III is not available for the Dodge... only the Quickcheck II. I really wish they would bring back the Road Relay 4... cancelled due to lack of interest. :(

Boss' uncle had it happen 3 times (failed to change the oil filter) from the same shop he used to have his oil changed at. He gave them a good cuss out. His Astro van now uses oil and smokes on start-up. He is very p***** off at them.

To Crabjoe about filter wrench from Geno's

I got the filter wrench for the 2003 Cummins engine. Oil Filter Removal Tool ('03 And Up Trucks) $4. 95 Works Great. It fits snug on the bottom of the filter and with a 3/8" extension you can remove the filter easily from the bottom and I did'nt spill any taking the old filter out or installing the new filter with oil in it.
