The PS in the white bottle for anti-gel will work down to -30 degrees Farinheit in straight #2 without any problems. I know I have used it every winter but one and we see temperatures like that almost every year. I know it's straight #2 because I fill with the semi's not at the front pumps where you get a blend.

I beleive all the Diesel fuel additives will have to be reformulated for the ULSD, as did the Engine oils for 2007 ULSD type Engines.

I did manage a great buy last summer on a 2 1/2 gallon jug of PS Fuel Supplement in concentrated form - enough to treat over 3000 gallons of diesel - paid $59 for that - seems like a REAL bargain now! :-laf

Just to let you guys know of another option- I checked Amalgamated this morning and their 5-gallon container shipped is $114. 68 ($64. 68 per pail), but I think it doesn't treat as much (1875 gallons, although I think if thinned down to treat 3000 gallons it would be just as good as the PS). Amalgamated is good stuff and definitely higher quality than the regular PS. Biggest downside is you have to mail in a check so it'll take a 2-3 weeks for delivery and 5 gallons is the smallest quantity. If you can buy 4 pails they can freight ship it to a business and save some $$.

Well if your an Amsoil preferred customer/Dealer, then the price of each bottle goes down a couple of bucks.

After figureing prices on both amalgamated and amsoil they are still more expensive than PS at $15. 00 per 96 oz jug. Better, worse or the same as PS I do not know.



One thing I do know is Truckers use PS and Howes exclusively around here. With weather conditions we get that's pretty much all I'll bet my life on in a winter storm. I can walk into a truck stop and buy the stuff by the case for even more savings.

I pulled over to check things out, suspecting a fuel system freeze up - everything looked physically OK, tried the restart and heard the 2 fuel pumps turning over, and she fired up as fuel PSI sluggishly crept back up near normal. We were nearly at the top of the grade at that point (about 5300 feet), so figured temps would start climbing as we took it easy on the downhill side. Fortunately, I was correct - and the rest of the trip was uneventful. We've been here for 2 years now in eastern Oregon - but that was the coldest temps we or the truck have been exposed to - so that was a learning experience!

Since moving to MN from detroit, MI area, I've never my self been exposed to cold temps where the HIGH is 0 in the dead of winter in the minneapolis area . .



The truck was new and well, like me, ever exposed.



The scariest part about COLD cold cold is break lines tend to get so cold that you can't press the peddle with enough force to do any sort of stop short of a slow one.



The first time it was -14 out at night and I was cruising at 70mph for 20 miles, go to apply the breaks and for a moment nothing happened! I had to pass my exit cuz the breaks wouldn't operate!!!!! what was mostly like a few moments seems like a panicked eternity!



So, I learned from that, always apply your breaks ever few miles when it's that cold out



Michigan in my area got to a low of 0 every few years.

If your brakes are not working in -14 there is something else wrong. I've driven in -30F (almost every winter since 1959) and never experienced frozen brakes, at least not on the newer cars since 69. You should probable have your brakes bleed as there might be moisture in the brake fluid.

the local idaho tdr chapter just got a 55 gallon drum of amalgamated. we split it up. works out to 75 bucks for 5 gal or 15 bucks per gallon. i gal treats 375 gal of fuel. we will be doing this again in the future when folks get their name on the list. amalgamated comes from indiana so a big % of the price was for shipping to idaho

I bought some Power Service today at D&D Supply (farm store) for $13 a jug. It's the pre-ULSD stuff. They had 5 or 6 jugs left. Only thing it's the white bottle. I normally use the grey one. Figured it wouldn't hurt though with winter coming on.

JasonCzerak- you could also have had some water get on your brakes (esp discs) and freeze them in place, making it harder to brake.

Howe's seems reasonably popular with lots of guys - Flying J had their stuff on sale while we were down in Lodi for Thanksgiving - $11. 95 for a half-gallon bottle supposed to treat 750 gallons of fuel (more than double what a 96 oz jug of PS will do!) - made for ULSD as well. So, I bought 3 bottles, and will give that a try...



I'd like to get more detailed info and spec's on this stuff, but can't find a website - anyone have a pointer?

Just another option. The "lubercity formula" doesn't have any winter protection. You would need the performance for that.

Actually, less info on their website than the bottle - but no big deal, just expected more detailed info. This stuff seems to make the same general claims as does the PS Diesel Supplement - mostly for winter anti-gelling, with some additional benefits as to lubricity and fuel mileage - biggest single difference is the claimed double treatment volume - 750 gallons in the Lucas 64 oz bottle vs 300 for the 96 oz PS stuff - and of course, the big difference in cost...

PS in a white bottle is around $14. 99 here @ Canadian Tire way up in Canada. With exchange etc I might be getting it a little cheaper than you guys! This is for a jug that is probably the 96 oz you speak of.

I don't know which bottle of Howes you bought but if it's the stuff with anti-gel in it the ratio is 1 oz howes to 2 gallon diesel, the PS white jug is 1 oz PS to 3 gallons diesel. This is for winter use. The 750 your speeking of is for summer use. Also howes states to use the double dose or 1 oz to 2 gallons all the time for cars and pickups.

The other Howes is called meaner cleaner which is not for winter use.

The Howes stuff I got is their "Diesel Treat" - and the info on the bottle front is where the "treats 750 gallons" statement is made - on the back (as I recall) was another statement that for "extra" protection, a double dose could be used - I think other makers usually also make similar statements - the Howes bottles I got are half-gallon size - 64 ounces...
