So, the guage? or the sending unit? -2 out side all night with block heater + snow. . I saw 1/4 PSI.

It's going to warm up later in the week.

How quickly does the "thick" fuel become "thin"? it's been near 0 many times, and it's only bee -2 as the low lastnight, is that enough heat to thin things up?

Jason, I just made a trip up there to Minneapolis yesterday. For about the first 60-70 miles of my trip my fuel pressure was around. 5psi. I think my eyes were on that guage almost as much as the road, it was pretty unnerving. I just kept it at or below the speed limit and tried to stay out of the throttle as much as possible, especially on hills. I kept hoping the post fuel heater warmed fuel returning to the tank would eventually thin the fuel in the tank. Fortunately, after nearly an hour it slowly rose to its normal low pressure of around 5psi. I always keep my truck plugged in in this weather (its been around -15 at night here). It probably did'nt help that I had a full tank of ice cold fuel too.

From the looks of things, I may have a bad gauge/sending unit.

I'll pull the sending unit and run some degreaser on it and see if any wax stuff comes out. Bring it in side to warm it up too.

I have it mounted directly to the tapped banjo bolt on the CP3.

I haven't driven much in the past few days sine this started. I've gotten on the highway for a few miles just to warm up the truck and leave it warmed for a bit... typicaly on my way home every night.

Pulled the sending unit out. . looked fine to me. warmed it up in front of hte torpedo heater a bit. . no change.

I'll see about calling auto meter and seeing if the send me a replacement.

I unplugged the sending unit and turned on the gauges and the LP fuel gauge rose up slowly around the dial. so connections are working somewhat right/

Well now I be the one on here tommorrow complaing about gelled fuel and low fuel pressure. I agree, but how could his fp guage read zero?

I know it's different but my 01 was reading zero a few days ago. The truck hasn't missed a beat and runs great but I took it real easy until the fuel thinned out. For the last ten years I have never had a problem, now with the introduction of ULSD I do. My gauge is mechanical and run directly into the cab.

Called Autometer support.

They said I prolly got a pressure "spike". I mentioned it was ironic that it just got cold and it broke.

So, frozen sending unit, some fuel pressure and "snap" goes the sending unit.

Free replacement is available which is nice. I'll need to get a 1/8 pipe deal to block the hole and send in the broken in.

I'm going to wait for the warm up tho, see what happens.

I though these spikes were only present in applications were a FASS or something was in place, not with the stock lift pump. especially one in the tank

The FASS is smooth... they are probably talking about the VP44 surges...

Maybe it was just coincidence that it failed the same time the weather got cold??
