16.5"x9.75" Wheels?

I'm shopping around for a nice set of used "summer" wheels for my '96. If I were buying new I'd purchase 16x8 with the factory backspacing 4. 75". But I've come across a few sets of 16. 5" wheels at some reasonable prices. I wouldn't hesitate buying a 16. 5" except they are 9. 75" wide.

I have 2 questions:
Will a 16. 5" wheel with a larger than stock backspacing clear the rear drums?

Do you think a 9. 75" with a 4. 75" backspacing puts too much stress on the steering components?

My main concern is how much stress going with a 3. 25" wider wheel will put on the front end.

If you don't have any lift then you won't be able to run those wheels. I didn't see a sig so this may be stupid. I know that you need a 4. 5" lift in order to run 10" wide tires. I don't think that you will have any problems getting them to fit on the rear drums. They don't extend that far over the drums if anything at all. I also don't believe that they will do anything to the front of your truck because millions of people use tires this wide and if they harmed peoples' trucks in any way then they just wouldn't be popular.

I've had 33x12. 50R 16. 5 tires on my truck-it came with them when I bought it about 88,000 mi. ago. No problems at all, solo or pulling my 12,000 lb 5er.

Keep in mind that 16. 5 tires are becoming harder to find.

Hey guys I have the leveling kit with 35/12. 50-16. 5's BFG Mud Terrains and 16. 5x9. 75 and NO RUB!!!! No other lift at all!!!!!

I have 16. 5" wheels and 33" BFG's on my rig. Had them on since new. No problemo. Fills up the wheelwells nicely without any lift. No rubbing under any circumstances.

I also run 33 12. 50 16. 5. not a problem. I have no lift, and they are 9. 75 inches wide. They are a year old, and forsale.

I believe they are cheaper because of the bead design. 16. 5's don't have a strong bead locking design as the 16" does. On my truck 10 psi is the lower limit. I think you can go to 5 psi on the 16" rims if you are carefull on the cornering.
