Just got a coupon in the mail from Dodge, offering a "Lube Oil & Filter Change Diesel Truck $16. 95". My dealer seems to know nothing about it and wants $60. 00 for the service.

Anybody else get one of these?

What is the catch?

My coupon was "from" my dealer, and was for $49. 95 for the change - which is about what he charges anyway!

Remember, like McDonald's, it's "participating" stores only - so, no, technically I don't think they HAVE to honor it, but for a good custormer, I would think they would.

And before everybody and their brother says - "do it yourself"..... some of us cannot, either due to where we live or park, time, disposal, and other issues. ;)

Hi. If You have the same coupon that I have, look down a little further, under "INCLUDES". It says "Additional charges may be applied for diesel, V-10's HEMI V-8's, etc. " Sorry! $16. 95 would be a great deal. Hope this helps. Joe F. (Buffalo)

Sounds like you guys are all lucky. The dealers around me have $139. 99 oil changes, to a $169. 99 service (they also rotate tires).

Specials run $89. 99, and that's as cheap as it gets. If I want to drive 1hr. , I can get it done for $49. 99. Kind of a wash, if you ask me.

Swexlin. You may very well be right. My coupon is from Dodge Service on haggerty Rd. in Plymouth Mi. It says "Trust the specialists at: Tempe Dodge" in Tempe, AZ. There are 4 coupon's on the back the first one being titled "Oil/Filter Change and 16 Point Vehicle Checkup $16. 95", etc. Joe F. (Buffalo)

I agree this could be a problem if the truck was not under warranty.

Since my truck is under warranty and I normally take it to the dealer anyway, I do not see this as a problem.

THe price would be a loss leader at best for the dealer as the filter and correct oil costs more than the 16. 95 so he may be looking for more service/money for those. Or they have a typo which is most likely. worst case would be they put 5 qts of car fluid in :--)

 Very possibly a loss leader since the dealer gives me a hard sell for most anything whenever I take the truck in. I have learned to just say NO!!!

It could also be a typo in the price--the dealer does not seem to have a clue.

Also the coupon, below says Lube, Oil & Filter Change Diesel Truck $16. 95. And then goes on to say "Additional charges not listed may apply for Diesels and V10 trucks". I am not sure what the this means and the dealer does not know either since all diesel oil changes are about the same and diesels are the only Dodge vehicles that use 13 quarts of oil. Also, in fine print below the coupon it says "Additional charge for HEMI equipped vehicles. "---no mention about additonal charge for diesels.

Wow, that coupon is misleading and confusing. No wonder the dealer is confused as well. It appears that no one "proofed" the copy before it went to print. Even at $16. 95, I would feel more comfortable doing it myself.

It reminds me of assembly instructions for a what-ever written in Taiwanese, Chinese, Japanese, or you name it, and translated to English.

Do you suppose DaimlerChrysler is outsourcing their printing?? In any case they sure could use a proofreader.

I just got one in the mail today from DC/my dealership. The price on it was $40. 95. I shredded it. It appears that the dealership has some input on what price to put on the coupon.

The last page of Consumer Reports always features goofy coupons and ads like that. You should send it into them... maybe if they use it you'll get a free subscription (which could be good or bad, depending on what you think about CR).

Disposal use to be a big problem for me until I found out by fed law, any place that sells oil is required to take back your old oil. I take my old oil to Walmart. There is no charge, and they never give my a hard time. :)

for 16. 95 if you dont want the dealership to change it maybe you can go get the filter and oil for the 16. 95 then go home and change it yourself

I was at my dealer on Friday with the Stratus and discussed this coupon with the service writers. They were quite upset that DC sent out coupons with a major typo to all of their diesel customers. Their current special was $49. 95 for an oil change, not too bad for a dealer.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'd be happy to buy the materials for $19. 95!
