The rear Supercharger belt needs to be replaced

Marlin Fish

I have been noticing that overnight my fuel has been running out of the tank. Don't know where it is going though, there is no spot to show. So I decided that I better change oil if it might be there and filter. Also changed fuel filter also. Was mowing the yard and stopped and let the thing idle while I was dumping some grass out of the catcher and noticed it was running rough. So then I shut it off to finish dumping my grass clippings. Went to start and NOPE.

There was a no flywheel spin situation. I took the air filter off and it was full of gas. And the plastic around the carb was also full. So I decided that it was flooded and let it sit for a while. Came back and it started but smoked REALLY bad. Took off the air cleaner and it was blowing fresh oil up through the carb and all over the place. So I quickly shut it down and left it sit in my half mowed yard. Any ideas where to start?

Sounds like the float in the carb is sticking and the breather tube is sucking the fuel into the motor.

The motor probably filled up with gas and hydro locked. I'll bet if you remove the plug(s) and crank it over you will have fuel spraying out of the spark plug hole.

You may have some junk in the bowl or the needle and seat need to be replaced.

Just ordered a carb rebuild kit for mine. Somewhere close to $30. Get your model and type info off the motor and go to: http://shop.briggsandstratton.com/B...ATALOGID=56B2B9A7-283C-11D4-8886-00B0D0203414

Sorry for the long link, but this takes you straight to the place to put the info in. Once there you can look up all the parts for you engine. Before doing so, look on your carb for the word NIKKI on it. If it does not have it then you have the Walbro carb. This motor came with one or the other on it and has 2 different rebuild kit part numbers. Took about 20 minutes to perform the rebuild. Runs pretty good now. Would be perfect, but the wife ran water and dirt filled fuel through it until had all sorts of issues. Has smoothed out quite a bit since the rebuild.

If the gas was disappearing into the engine, then the oil is probably diluted. Check the oil level, and if it's over full (from the gas draining into it) that could be the source of your wet filter, since that's where the crank breather probably routes to. Your locked motor could have been from hydrolocking or getting too hot from inadequate lubrication.

Is this an I/C or a Vangaurd?
