Oh, yeah, all the wheels I sold went to various places in the midwest. Average shipping = $32 ea.

The deal I missed @ $200 was exceptional. If you see a deal, be ready to jump! You can find 4 wheels/caps and usually at least some good tires on CL here for ~$400. I've got 4 or 5 metro areas within 2 hours, and I don't mind traveling a bit, especially if I can get the seller to send me some decent photos before I go.

I even saw some 2010 wheels (a lot like the 3rdgen, but with 6 spokes) with brand new tires for $400! Missed those too.

yea I keep missing the deals also,I see centerline makes em in the correct backspacing but,a little bit to much coin for me right now. o well the search is on

@ Ski - I have an 02 4wd too. I have 2" leveling coils on mine and am running Toyo AT 285/75/17 on 3rd Gen wheels. They look great and ride much better then the Toyo MT's that I had before.

Ah awesome, thats the combo I would like to do, just wondering do you think I can get away with that set up with out the 2 inch lift/spacers for awhile ,maybe some time til I can get to it.

Lots of guys here run the Toyo 285/75/15 on stock rims and no lift kits.

They fill the wheel well nicely, but do NOT rub at all, even at full lock.

You can even fit one of them in the spare location under the bed, though it IS tight. . I don't think a spare 285/75/27 works with the MagHytec diff cover, but I could be wromg about that.

Did you take a look at the wheels listed in the TDR classifieds yet ??

awesome, yes I checked out the wheels they are steel which is fine but I really want the polished aluminum wheels, I have found some but have a feeling im gonna pay, but it will be worth it.

It would be a total guess, but I think you would be able to run these without a lift. It might be tight though. They are just shy of 34" in diameter.

very niceeeeeee ,I guess when i find the rims and mount tires if it does not fit without the lift I know where my tax refund will be going, but that looks great.

My 97 dually had 215 tires. I wanted to change to 235's but the rear sidewalls touched at the bottom bulge. Got a set of 2001 wheels and 235 tires on TDR classified. Wore those out and put new 235's on. Had already found out that the inside wheels barely cleared the drums. A business card would hardly slide between the drums and wheels. I did use an angle grinder to take a bit of metal off the edge or the drums, did this with the truck jacked up and the rear drums rotating. I pull a heavy fifth and was still concerned about heat transferring to the wheels due to insufficient air circulation. Found a set of 2005 17 inch takeoffs with 235 tires. Put the six partly worn 235's on the fifth which is a triaxle. This cured all my concerns. Found that the truck handled better, presumably because of the narrower sidewalls. Now if I could find a way to put bigger front discs on the truck. I did mostly cured any braking problem by installing hydraulic brakes on the trailer. Huge improvement.

So far all my reseach didn't find a way to put larger discs on the truck. Maybe change the whole front axle.

Only negative is that I was transferring the 16 inch tires to the trailer when they were half worn. Can't do that anymore unless I replace the 16 inch American Racing wheels with 17 inchers.

All I can tell you is that I mounted 3rd generation steel wheels on my 97. No problems at all. The wheels have a slightly deeper offset but there is plenty of clearance front and back. Both sets of wheels, 16 inch and 17 inch, are hubcentric. Not sure about using studcentric, although I assume most if not all aftermarket aluminum wheels are studcentric so must be OK.

woo hoo :) found a set of polished 17 inch 3rd gen rims om ebay with caps for 475 not to bad, and they look great just waiting ,and hope to get tires asap, and maybe that kore kit with the tax refund. thanks for everyone help and input, will post pics soon I hope.

I have the same 3rd Gen 17s on my 2001 2500 4X4. I bought them for $300 with 35 BFGs. They fit my truck with plenty of clearance. However, I just had to replace the tires I went with Goodyear Silent Armour 285 X 70 X 17, tremendous difference.

The biggest advantage I think, along with the looks, handling, etc... is the additional clearance. I just converted to T-steering. The 17s really gives the truck a lot of clearance around the tierods. Just my two pennys.

BTW, 16 inch tires are getting more expensive in FL then 17s in the 285 to 325 aspect ratio

Yea I am very happy with the looks and fit,so much better and true lots more clearance ,and I think 16 inch tire are becoming what 15 became.
