I looked at several 05 heavy duty Rams, Cummins with and without the snow prep package, and a Hemi. All the alternators looked the same to me and all had a large 136A on the back, that makes me think they are all 136 Amp alternators.

I had heard that all the Cummins come with the 160A alternator, is this true?

All Cummins powered truck have a 136A alternator. Many people belive the DC literature that says the plow prep package will upgrade you to a 160A alternator but this is only be true with the Hemi powered trucks. The way I see it, the only definite option you get with a plow prepped Cummins is a skid plate and possibly different front springs.

Thanks for the clarification Rosco. You saved me from ordering a non option.

I think it is a shame Dodge doesn't offer the 160A option, considering the dual batteries and trailer load potential.

There a guy on ebay that sell high out alternators for Dodge Ram CTD. 160 and 200. I believe the custom wind the orginal housings. I was thing of getting one for my suburban as the voltage all looks low. around 13 charging.
