my 95 automatic cummins from what I have read has the 160hp pump.

Can someone explain what is different compared to the 215hp pump?

Is my 160 upgradeable or would I need a new one?

I want to do some upgrades to the injectors but don't know anything about my options.

Thanks in advance

John

The 160 will still respond to most power upgrades, like fuel plates, and injectors. It may have problems with larger injectors, but you can change the delivery valves to help that. I think the main difference is the larger pumps put out more fuel per stroke, which makes more power.

Do a search,on injectors and 160 HP pumps, there is a lot of good info, and how to fix\help the stumble with larger injectors.

You could upgrade to a bigger pump, but they are not cheap. Try some smaller mods first and see.

Your pump is fine unless your wanting a lot of hp. Mine is doing fine at 400 hp. 370 injectors and 191 delivery valves.

One of the main differences (as I understand it) is the size of the delivery valves, thus the need to upgrade to larger ones when going to large (i. e. 370) injectors. Had a guy (gasser) at the drag strip awhile back tell me that "a buddy of mine" says you're wasting your time trying to "turn up" a 160 truck... then he saw me run :p

Way to go Dan!!!! Stand up for us little "P" guys  , "P" pumps that is... ... :D

Another member who has quite a bit of knowledge about the "little" pump is Strick9. You may be able to PM him for specific questions. And don't forgett our resident EXPERTS, Joe D. and Piers H. the knowledge GGGGOOOOOODDDDDDDSSSSSS

Good Luck

I think that the cam grind is different in the 160 pumps. There is not enough fill time groung into the cam to allow for higher rpm power. Mine will sound kinda funny when it is ran over 2700 at full load ( can't get enough fuel in the barrels )

I belive the 160 has 12 mm plungers and barrels and the 215 has 13mm but I could be wrong on that.

The 215 have a internal timming advance ground into the plungers if i remember right.

Adam

adam is close. the 160 pump does not have the fill time, like he said, Very important. small dv's, and 12mm plungers. The 215 has 12mm plungers as well, big dv's, awesome fill time, but the plungers are different. There is an adavnce built in, (double helix) that i have been told about. the 180 pump will be better to hop up than the 160, ..... but the 215 is the one... ... . OOOOOOORR, send that 160 pump to Piers, and he grinds the cam, installs 13 mm plungers, puts a little magic dust on it and YAAAAA, horsepower!
