2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission $16000 for a 98 3500 4x4 sound right?

Does $16000 sounds about right for a 98 dodge 3500 4x4?

It's a quad cab, 24valve,5spd, SLT, 160K miles.

Outside looks pretty good, inside shows normal wear.



Edmunds shows $16000 as the high dealer selling price but I was wondering what you guys and gals have been paying for a similar truck.

That doesn't seem too bad. I recently purchased a 99 3500 reg cab with dumping flatbed, auto, 61k, SLT 4x4 for 18,900. My buddy was having a hard time getting $22,000 for his loaded 2001 2500 with 19k, leather, alloys, chip/exhaust. , fifth wheel. Ended up trading it in for an '03. Everybody in Maine drives Powerstrokes so the used CTD market is great.

$18,000 for a well maintained QC sounds pretty decent. Do you have the history?

i paid $16k for my 96 with 59k mi on it. i wouldn't own a 24v but the price seems pretty good if you have to have a 24v that you can't work on yourself.

I bought a '99 3500 qc 2wd 5speed everything except leather for $8900 at a dealer's auction. I paid 11,000 for my truck when it had 180k on it last july. I would check ebay thats where I bought my current ride.

Sounds good to me. I paid $15k for mine with 139,100 miles on it in '01 when the NADA and KBB listed it for over $20 even considering the $4500 deduction for the mileage.

Sounds like a steal to me!! I paid 18,000 for my 95 R-3500 Dually 4x4 w/62k miles up in Anchorage and I thought that was a fair price after I talked them down $2000. Go for it!!

I drove the truck and it runs and drives great.

It does have a little wonder in the steering, but from reading these forums it's probably due for a track bar change.

The previous owner seemed to take pretty good care of the mechanicals from what I saw. There were six brand new tires, new brakes, a bully dog exhaust temp gauge and a little box that said "bully dog" stuck on top of the fuse box under the hood. I assume that this was some sort of fuel box. The lift pump made the little buzzing sound for 15 seconds when I turned the key on so I know it's running.

The only that I didn't like about the truck was the 4. 10 gears but I guess I can live with that as I don't spend too much time on the interstate.

The clutch had some shake to it as you slipped it backing out of the parking spot. Does this mean it's been slipping? Needs to be replaced?

Edmunds says it's worth $16000. I'm going to call them back today and offer them $15000 as it may need a new clutch.



Oh yeah, my favorite part was the muffler had been eliminated, it sounded very good.

Edit: I forgot to mention that while cruising down the highway at 55mph the shifter lever for the transmission shakes back and forth and rattles. I'd say it probably shakes a good two or three inches back and forth. Is this normal?

It can buzz and still not be working, need to get a guage. Mine is a new 6 speed and does not shake, I have driven a 2001 5 speed and it did not shake. Where are you located? Maybe another member that lives close can give it a look for you??

Sounds good to me I paid $15000 for my 98 2500 quad cab 4x4 12v 5spd truck about 8 months ago and the truck was bone stock with 88000 miles on it. And it was very clean.
