Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Fuel leak-Help!

My CEL came on. I ran the code and it set a 1693. I looked up the code and all it said was it set a code in the ECM or the DTC. What does this code really mean? I then reran the code two times and then it cleared the CEL and also the code. What gives? Thanks for any help. Moe

Unfortunately, the 1693 is just a companion code. If the 1693 is in the PCU, then it means there is a code present (or past) in the ECU. In other words, the powertrain controller unit is telling you that the engine controller unit has more info to tell you. Most scanners are only able to scan the PCU rather than the ECU. I'm guessing you will see more symptoms down the road. However, I've seen this error before on my truck at high elevations, only to clear up, and then never return (two years now).

fortunately it cleared itself, but a trip to the dealers drbIII tool might shed some light on the real code. thanks for the reply David. Moe

I would say skip the dealer unless you are really concerned. There is a chance it has cleared in the ECU as well and the dealer won't see it. He won't have a problem charging you $75 though. :-laf Have you done any mods to your truck other than the Edge? I've seen a loose connector here setting codes.

Nothing except an Edge box and full gauges. Runs fine 13lbs pressure at idle. Its just odd that it threw that code and then cleared up. Moe

Well like I said, the 1693 doesn't give you much without the companion codes. I'm just running a DDTRPM (edge with a different program) and some RV275 injectors and a couple of years ago I did a real hard acceleration at altitude in which I triggered a 1693. The code cleared itself after a half-dozen restarts and I have never seen it since? Good luck.

Felton is near San Fransisco (or even closer, Santa Cruz). I live there for the small town environment and being in the redwoods--and I have to live near Silicon Valley for my job. My real love is in "Gods Country", Caleveras County, up near Sonora but further up into the mountains (near Bear Valley). This is where I spend my spare time.

My brother took us all over northern ca one summer. I really like it. Totally different from where I live in Ohio. moe
