Steve,

Rather than beating on the housing and causing some damage to the housing or worse hurting yourself (between the legs-ouch :{ )put two of the bolts back in (the two with the least clearance between the hot end and the compressor) then put spacers between the bolt end and compressor and then turn the bolt back out. Alternate between the two bolts and she should come apart.

Piers has the bolts. I got new bolts with my new housing. They look like 3/8", but they're metric if I remember correctly. Or maybe you have a Fastenal store in your area? The housing will come off the turbo with PB Blaster, time and patience. Mine came off pretty easily, but Case500D's took more "persuasion". We used a big rubber dead blow hammer with care. Just keep checking that the turbo spins freely as you work the housing off, so you don't get it cocked and damage the fins.

I preferred doing this with the turbo on the engine, for a solid mount. No turbo is going between my legs with a hammer swinging at it. :{ :D

I've been wacking that thing but it still won't come. I'm afraid to hit it too hard and break something. I got it inside getting it warm so I'll try some more.

Steve- When I did mine I left two bolts in and backed them out about 1/2 turn, then I used a dead blow to hit the housing away from the center section. Keeping the bolts slightly loose prevents the housing from damaging the impeller fins when it finally moves.

I guess I was lucky mine only took a few good whacks to lossen up.

I pulled one once and ended up beating the snot out of it with a 5# sledge hammer that casting is really thick and didn't seem to mind.

Guys, it is easier to remove on the truck. Use some wooden or plastic wedges between (stagger ) turbo and housing. Beat evenly. Works everytime. 2 of the bolts are easier to remove if you can lossen turbo alittle from housing and rotate the turbo to give you more room. As far as the intake ,it can be rotated were ever you like at any time by lossening the outer housing/back plate and spinning into position.

Replace bolts if damaged with stainless and never seize.

Hope this helps.

Have you tried the easy way. I came up with this method in the shop and the collective years of Piers and Al haven't seen a easier way. The bolt method is hard on the bolts and turbo itself.

:) I finally got it all together, what a Job, but yeeeha it works.

Got it all in 9:00 PM SAT More on that later, right now I need some help.

I was going to the hardware for some stuff for the job and I seen about 5-6 oil spots on the pavement. It was coming off the crossmembers and stuff. I checked and sure enuff. It was the oil drain from the turbo. Could this be caused by the turbo being cocked a little, I think I got it pretty close to what it was. I couldn't get all the old gasket material off. Also does it matter what side the gasket goes on? one side was green. Would it be O. K. to use some Hi-temp Gasket stuff aroung the outside edges?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks, Steve

sgriffing... .

No, mine did not come off easily... I did the beating thing, then realized that I could use the bolts..... that made it almost effortless;)

Plus I think I frigged it up beating it... ended up replacing it 5 months later:mad:
