440hp/925tq for the new Super Duty, my brother will be proud:-laf

The F-450 is rated to tow a 32,500 gooseneck but only 27,500 fifth wheel, I wonder what that is all about?

Same reason that the B&W Companion RVK3300 for the Ford puck system is rated 20K while the RVK3600 for the Ram is rated 25K, I suspect. The short distance between the Ford's front and rear pucks provides less stability and resistance to fore/aft forces when using a 5th wheel hitch.

Well, good for them! I drank their Kool-Aid for a long time, but no more. Almost all the Fords we owned 1980+ were nothing but trouble. They can keep their junk, IMHO. Now, your badazz sledd puller, Nick, is a whole 'nother story!!!:D

Okay, that makes sense, I didn't think about the hitch being the limiting factor, I was just thinking about the pickup. With the high profile platform of the fifth wheel v/s the low mount ball I can see why now.

Ford did finally box the frame for 24 times the strength of the old one.

Yes, my last 2 Fords were '79's, 1 bronco and 1 F-250 super cab 4x2, both with the M series engine, no power and suck the gas.

I had an '86 F-250 with the carb'd 460. No power, dumped heat into the cab. Suuuuucked gas. Wandered all over the road with the TTB too.

My guess is that the 5er has more frontal area creating additional wind resistance.
Larry

My 2016 Ram doesn't differentiate between the two - 39,100 GCWR and 30,050 trailer tow rating. I don't know why the higher-rated F-450 would have a lower 5th wheel towing rating than my Ram other than Ford's inferior puck system.

Rusty

When Ford owners try to seriously put that power to use, the dealers will be inundated again with warranty repair after warranty repair. But don't worry they'll hide all that power in torque management, it'll only be once in the lifetime of the truck you'll ever really feel it. I remember the 6.4 introduction as the most powerful pickup, that turned out to be the biggest lawsuit between two partners, because it didn't solve any issues with previous 6.0's and the new 6.4.

Does this mean furd is going to take a basic stripped down f 450's tow specs and apply them to the f 350. Seems like they did this last year or the year before.

I'm actually happy to hear those numbers, the race to 1000 lbs is still on. But yes, unfortunately torque management will neuter it. Maybe after they hit a half ton of torque they can focus on making transmissions that will survive with no/less tq managment?

Ever watch an old, heavily loaded R Model Mack with a juiced Maxidyne pull out and twist like a dog lifting its leg?

I have.....:D

Drove a White 9000 with an NHC-250 that would do that when grossing over 90,000 lbs.....trouble was that the throttle lost it's travel with the cab, frame and engine all twisted up and you had to very careful to stay in time with all of the slack so as not to snap an axle when you got the fuel pedal back.

Learn on something like that and everything after is easy.....:-laf

Trip to the Quebec Truck Drags is on my bucket list...Big trucks and French girls...what's not to like????

The wife of a very nice family from Quebec explained French girls to me while a bunch of us were sitting around a campfire one night...

I quote...

"An American girl will date you to see if she wants to sleep with you, a Quebec girl will sleep with you to see if she wants to date you!"

I, of course have never forgotten that.........:D

I don't even get excited about torque claims and such anymore UNLESS it's these loaded "B" trains drag racing uphill....if that don't get your attention you are clinically dead.....

Loads of lumber to boot, right up my alley. Think I'll go warm up the forklift...

Don't forget they're going to an aluminum cab. That sheds weight so they can add where they want. And Cummins will even up with a software flash.

Don't get me wrong, the new trucks have a lot of capability, but with all the electronic intervention I am hard pressed to say it really impresses me. The more I feel the "on-board wizard" second guess my every input, the less interested I am. Heck, they don't even trust me to blow the horn anymore.

That is an excellent point. The '97 gives me all kinds of feedback and even the '06 gives a fair amount for a drive by wire system.

But I feel disconnected driving the newer ones.
