2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission 17" rims, what year?

I'm looking at swapping out my steel OEM 16" rims for 17" OEM, steel or alum. What year did they start using 17's? I want to keep the 2nd Gen look, just need the better rims. I'm kinda thinking around '98-2002 rims would do the trick.
 
The 17's became standard in '03 and according to a site I found a few weeks ago (can't remeber which one) the bolt pattern has been the same since '94 for all dodges and most chevy's as well. A quick Google search will return tons of info.

Don't make the mistake of buying a set of used Furd wheels. They are metric sized.

Furd wheels are inferior anyway.
 
03 was when Dodge went to 17's (why they don't go bigger is anyones guess).



The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gen wheels are all interchangeable back to probably 72 atleast; I know they fit 89-93's. Obviously the earlier 16" wheels won't fit the 03 and later trucks, they require 17's (or 16. 5 if calipers are ground down).
 
OK, it seems that '03 was the year for 17s. I could have sworn that I saw 17s on a second gen rig that looked similar to my 16s. Yep, I know about the caliper clearance issue. Wish I had that problem, as my '95 brakes aren't anything to brag about (needs the bigger 2 piston calipers). Anyone got a set of OEM 17s laying around?

Now, please tell us about that 98. 5 transmission you put in a 95? Is that the 48RE? Thought you would need a totally different PCM for that swap. Maybe start a new post on this topic?

The 48RE transmission wasn't available until 1-1-03 in combination with the 5. 9L 305/555 engine.
