17" tire availability??????

I am about to take delivery of a 04 3500. Has there been any problem with tire availability? Just curious, this will be a work truck and I dont want to get stuck somewhere in Wyoming looking for a replacement tire.

Tires

There are plenty of tires in Wyoming

you just have to know where to find them.

The tires are put to better use hanging on fence posts, especially the Goodyears

I agree on the better use for Goodyear tires. Hope my new one has Michelens or BF on it.

i just bought 315 70 17 bfgs All terrains for 560 mounted and balnce.

FHolmes... did you put them on the stock rims? Are there any rub problems when turning?

My comment on the 315 BFG's is that I like them and they seem good for everything but mud, but if the tire shop puts a bunch of weights on them say "no thank you" to that tire. Finally got the one bad one replaced after balanceing, rotating and griping every 5000 mi for 20K. What a PITA. Then the installer had to go through 2 tires to find one better than the one they took off. Don't think the QC thing has trickled down to BFG from Michelin.

If you are getting the 3500 Dually, you can only get Good Year as they are the only ones making the 17" size that comes on our 03-04 Rams.



I see where some members are putting other size tires on their trucks, 315's etc, but they all have 2500's, SRW, or do not say what truck they have other than it's a CTD. I have not seen where someone has found a substitute tire for the 17" DRW Ram.



I also have an extreme dislike for the Good Year tires. Am hoping that Michelin will start making tires for our 3rd gen. duallies, or maybe Alcoa will have the 19. 5 wheels out before I have to get new tires.



Any ideas out there?

i asked for no weights on the outside on the aluminum wheels when i got my 315's... and that's what i got, and it's very well balanced. the spare steel wheel has one weight on the outer, but i don't really care about that since it is not seen everyday

my 04 came with the worst tire evev made- generals-dealer changed them off another 1 ton, thanks tommygun. i dont have anything but good to say about goodyear.

I have never gotten more than 40,000 miles out of a set of tires on any of my many CTD's. No matter what brand. However I can see my factory Goodyears lasting at least 60,000 miles. They have 21,000 on them and I just rotated and put balancing beads in them. I am not crazy about what I read about availability of the tire size and brands but I gotta say I am pleasantly surprised with the Goodyears.

I got 40K out of my first set of goodyears on my 03 dually. My 2000 got 65K out of the michelins!

I think the Goodyear GSA is a great tire. Good on snow. verdict still out on mileage. Sure like to find them at a decent price !

AKsmoker, I absolutely agree. The tire, IMHO, is a great match for the 3500 DRW 4x4. It works great on the snow and ice. I've got 20k miles on mine and they still look great. I hope to get 60k miles out of them but will take less since I've never owned a truck that got more than 50k miles on a set of tires anyway. Even if there are other tires available when its time to change them out I'll most likely go with the GSA's.

I saw on the Goodyear site that they have a 50,000 miles warranty on the GSA's, anyone gotten a proration on wearing these out early. If not I wonder how you get prorated? I am really hard on tires, I need a new set every year on all of my trucks. Never get the advertised mileage so I am gearing up for getting some $$$$ towards my next set.

I've been happy with my GY GSAs on ice and snow. Heard Cooper was going to come out with some 17" for the duallies. Read a lot of forum comments about how poorly the Michelins performed in the snow/ice. The Michelins I've had in the past worked fine.



Wish list: Toyo M55s or GY workhorse.

I CANT SE WHY ANYONE WOULD WANT 19. 5S. THEY COST WAY MORE AND HAVE POOR TRACTION. HARDER RUBBER SO MAY WARE LONGER.

I see a Toyo 17" that is 33" tall for SRW and carries 3700lbs. I love my 19. 5's and the Michelin all terrain I have digs deep with traction. Pleasure on the highway as well and unbreakable in back country. guesterman
