yes i have 4 dodge trucks 93-98-01-04. 5 all diesel. 78 with 440-and a few old fords.

doldenburg; That's great! It helps dummies like me to get an idea as to where you are coming from and convinces me you pretty much know what you are talking about.



I agree that General makes some pretty sorry tires. The Good Year tires for cars and Light Duty pickups are not much if any better in my opinion. I would not buy either of them. I have expressed my extreme dislike to DC about the Good Year tires and not being able to have a choice when paying big $$$$$ for their vehicles. The GY makes a very good tire for big rig semi-trucks but the LT tires do not compare at all and are produced in different plants.



Until recently, Good Year has been the only ones that made the 17" tires our 3rd generation Dually Rams came with. I see where some TDR members say General also makes them now. Before I would buy either of them I would spend the big bucks for the 19. 5 wheels and put Michelin tires on them. The 19. 5's have some "down" conditions but the good/positive benefits outweigh the bad, at least for my use towing a heavy RV.



I can see me now, towing across Arizona or NM on I-40 many miles from anything and the Good Year's come apart like some other members have shown us by posting photos on another thread and I know from personal experance. Besides doing thousands $$$ in damage to my $72,000 RV and/or truck fenders, and big bucks for a "Big Rig" wrecker to tow me to a shop where they 'might' get me some XX brand tires and back on my way in a couple days or weeks. Then the cost of the 19. 5 H. D. setup may not seem to be so high. JMHO



The peace of mind for the extra safety means a lot to me. I am waiting for the 19. 5 Alcoa wheels I heard were to be out soon. Oo.

Wow, I must have missed this. I didn't realize that the GSA's were coming apart. I did a search but came up with nothing. Can someone point me to the link with the pics of GY GSA's coming apart? Thanks.

If you want to run the 315's they seem to be popping up everywhere. Thos H2 guys like their bling bling.

I think a while back someone posted that his GSA's got sidewall cracks. I think they had a fair amount of miles on them also.

There have been many posts by members that complained about problems with Good Year tires. One example is a post by Bill Stockard in 3rd gen. forum on 1/31/04 with photos of sidewalls splitting w/25,000 miles on the tire. Another by RustyJC on Towing/Hauling forum on 1/13/04 about a $2500. 00 GY tire separation. I have seen many others since I bought my first CTD Ram in 95 and joined TDR. The R. F. tire on my 95 2500 had a little over 24,000 K miles when it blew out on the freeway one day @ 70 MPH with no warning. (Running empty) I rotate regularly and maintain proper air pressure. It came apart and the tread came off like a re-cap. It caused major damage, had to replace the SS running board, fender and trim.



People that use their HD Rams for hauling/towing over extended time have had a lot of problems over the years with GY tires. If you are having good luck with your GY's, just hang in there friend, the day will come where you wise up about GY. I would buy Firestone or "MayPop" brand first. GY is the very last brand I would consider. JMHO

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed folks tend to have definate opinions about tire flavors?



I saw Bill's pics and those were nasty, for sure.



Reckon I'll torch things up a bit by questioning why would anyone with a lick of common sense want to put phatties on their rig unless they are

• heading for the sand dunes.
  
• ripping up the mud on someones private property
  
• cruisin for chicks
  
• trying to impress other dudes with phatties
  

IMHO there is nothng worse than phatties on ice and snow. Plus its harder on the equipment.

CAKUZ, yea I found lots of posts on this and other forums about tire separation problems but have found very little on the stock 17" GSA's. I did see the one you mentioned and the few people that chimed in. I must have missed the rest -- I'll check again. -DF
