As someone who could not get over 35,000 miles on any tire combo on any of my dualies I am surprised at the wear I am getting out of the stock Goodyears. What kind of mileage are you getting?

I just put new tires on my 03. Was bragging to shop foreman at my dlr. about the mileage on my tires, 83K+, and while looking at them, noticed cracking just below rim on front drivers side, after inspecting further, found 5 of the 6 were cracked the same. Took it to Goodyear dlr. , and they gave me 60. 00 ea. on replacement, the big problem was not one 235x80r17 in stock at dlr. in US. Took 15 days to get them special order! Dlr. said bad batch of tires. No other brands in that size either. I really think they would have made 100K if not for that. So if you are needing tires, I would check ahead of time.

Yogibear,

What kind of tire pressure did you run in the front and in the rear?

My 03 came with 55 lbs. in each of the front... I immediately added 10 lbs. and am running 65 lbs. now. I am thinking about going up to 75 lbs. The ride has not changed, that I can notice, so I am looking for a tire pressure that will provide tire longevity.

I run 65# all the way around. I only had them rotated once at about 25K. The wear was real even across all tires. BTW, I put steel valve stems, valve cores w/screens and equal beads in the new tires, and they are smooth as glass, no more balancing. I thoungt I ordered the steel beads, and didn't check them when they came, and when installed they turned out to be the glass beads, but they work fine.

To Yogibear:

I mentioned this exact problem on 9/6/03 and was told that I was carrying to much air in my tires. The thread was "Tire bead separation on dually". I guess the air pressure doesn't matter. I still run 80 lbs. At least you got money back.

EB, I used to run 80# in rear of my 96 2500, then would deflate to 55# when empty, never did get over 60-75K on set of tires. When I got my 00 dually, went to 60# all around, got 79K out of OEM's, then went to Michelin's from Sams club and got 106K, had them rotated every 8 to 10K. I just serviced my trk. , and went to 60# all around, going to try that for a while. I was really surprised they warrantied my tires, I don't think I ever got warranty on OEM's before.

Like I stated earlier, I have always run the max as stated on the tire sidewall. 90% of my mileage is loaded. It was brought up in a company safety meeting that if you had an accident resulting from a blowout and all your tires were cked and found to be under-inflated, (not within 5% of the max stated) you could be charged with improper pre-trip inspection, and be liable. You know how the lawyers work, they will look for anything. It is a company policy, max air.

I have always run max air even before I started running hotshot. To each their own, I have found the mileage to be better this way. Yes, they are rougher this way, but I am almost always loaded. (ck my gallery for some of the things I tow)

To Yogibear:

I still have the first set I took off in my barn, who did you contact to get a rebate on yours?

Well, the wear is impressive. However, the problem is still the same. Two (2) years in production and still no tires!

If Ford and GM don't go to 17" wheels, there probably won't be any tires for another two years. It simply isn't profitable for for a manufacturer to make small production runs.

With DC losing 1. 3 to 1. 9 BILLION per quarter, it would be a gamble to manufacture a large run of tires for a vehicle that may be discontinued when DC goes belly up. Oo.

New 03 Michelins

Hey Yogi, I broke down and picked a new one up on the lot in Ok the other day. thanks for the ride last summer that convienced me i needed a new truck. This truck has Michelins on it and my 99 had michelins and 67,000 miles and very little wear showed on those tires. When i was in sam's at Salina , Ks a month ago they had tires for our trucks. I think they were BF Goodrich... Stop by sometime and tell (The Goat) Hi if you see him. Haven't seen him on here so think some of his bunch got him in Jail. hahaha Radar Doc. .

I last rotated my tires at 30k and noticed the rear tires were wearing faster than the front. I run 65 lbs. all around. I'm a 35k now and still have some life left on the tires. I'm hoping to make it through this hunting season but I'm guessing that's going to be tough with another 10 - 15k miles. As someone else mentioned here, I wish there were more choices in tires.
