17" wheels

My cooper 255/85's are rapidly on the way out and i'm thinking of getting new wheels at the same time. I currently have the factory steel wheels and want to go with an 8" wide rim. Is any one running 17x8" wheels? I'd like to stay with a 33" tire if i could to keep the rpm's down on the highway, but dont really want to go with anything like a mud terrain. I'm thinking 265/70R17 BFGoodrich AT's. Anyone tried them? Does anyone know of any 33" tires with a not too agressive tread? Also any input on wheels would be appreciated... ie models/backspacing. Thanks... . sorry for being longwinded
