Check out my sig, I've got a decent air filter system and a modified stock exhaust that should be good to the 350 range. I don't think I'm above 300hp or so. Yet, I can make 1450 plus deg. egt if I stay in it in 5th.

I've got fuel to make 45lbs. of boost if I choose with no load. Just the little 1 ton.

My thoughts are retire the 5 and try a #10 plate, and upgrade to a 4" exhaust.

Anyone have personal experience with this combination? Is the 10 a step down from the 5 with a 175hp pump.

Any input is welcome.

Thanks, RJR

mine has the 10 plate and 4k gsk timed at 15. 5 and i made adjustments for maxium smoke (i'm probably losing quite a bit right there) i run a BHAF and at the time 3in strait exhaust i can get to 1300 in 4th @ ~2900 rpms my turbo is the wh1c not the hx35 i make ~ 37 lbs of boost my truck will roll over 300k on the clock in 2 weeks as for EGT issues you can see i have none to speak of,and i ran a 302rwhp and 799ftlbs torque https://www.turbodieselregister.com/user_gallery/displayalbum.php?&userid=14956&albumid=16411

Plate adjustment

Moparguy, I suggest you try moving the plate back untill you can control the EGT's to your liking.

The P pump is very adjustable, I'd take advantage of this feature. For no cost just slide the plate back from it's current location to at least middle position. From your current EGT's I'd say the plate is all the way forward.

Give this a try and let us know what the results are.

Hope this helps Greg L

I do not think that the #10 will help you WOT EGT's. Also at your HP level given that you are already running a free flowing exhaust, the 4" exhaust will provide marginal results, if any, as far as relief from EGT's.

Unfortunately I am going to have to agree with Greg :D The easiest thing for you to do to help control your EGT's is to slide the plate back.

You won't loose any power going to a #10 you'll just make it more adjustable, I don't know what a 6 looks like but a 10 has a half moon fuel curve.

Do the gov arm adjustment. You can control your fuel curve buy where you set the arm. Go with the #10 plate its the most versital plate there is.

The 10 gives more low end fuel and less at high rpm. You could try more turbo and head porting. Remember too that a strong torque plate brings in some of the fuel late and that makes for more egt vs. power compared to early fuel. You could also try a couple more degrees of timing.

Joe, can you grind away some on the upper portion of the #10 plate to give it more top end fueling?

Thanks for the replies guys. The 10 sure sounds tempting. I may go the plate trade in route and see how it compares to the 5.

Joe, I really hadn't considered more timing, thinking 16. 5 was plenty since this is a work truck at times, sees a gcvw of 30k or so. Does the little pump allow 18degs without undue stress?

I do realize that everything is a trade-off and stock is safer, just no fun.
