Truck is an 06 mega ab bone stock. I put a double deep tran pan and gauge on it at 18k miles. Now has 124k on it. Sitting waiting to go into car was tran temp went to 183. Never seen it that high. Is the tc going out? When I got back underway it cooled down to 156. Fluid was changed 18k miles ago. If tc is going out can I get by with a new tc or do I have to go with a full rebuild.

Were you sitting with the transmission in Drive or Park? Obviously sitting in Drive will build temperature. If you have to sit and idle waiting, put the trans selector in Neutral. With a stock automatic, the fluid will circulate while in neutral. From a temperature standpoint, 180 isn't anything to worry about.

I agree with Motorhead. 180 is nothing to worry about. I'd start to worry, a little, at 210. I'd start to worry a lot at 240.

Sitting still the trans temp is going to mirror engine temp pretty closely. No problem though, that is well within its operating range. Trans temp sensor for the data bus is in the pan.
