What would it take to get 400hp out of a 95 180hp engine?

I'm still unbombed, but after reading much on this, I feel I'm sort of qualified to answer.
1 the 370 diamond b injectors. Get the right ones, from Joe D or Piers.
2 healthy cam plate. (maybe others can get specific)
3 AFC spring kit.
4 Governor spring kit.
5 re time to 15 deg or so.
6 you'll need to beef up the trans and/or cluch or you're not going to get this HP to the ground.

I brought an older post back to the top. It's by John_P. It should have all the info youre looking for.
Oh yea, I saw just now you have the 95 engine. I think you'll have to do the delivery valves too. I dont think it's too big of a job.
Keep us posted.

I had a 97 with the 180, I just dynoed at 302. 2.
300 Injectors, TST#5, 16 housing.

So this is what NOT to do if you want 400hp!!

Where are you at?
There is a P7100 pump GURU in Muncie Indiana, talk to Stacked and Jacked, or BULLWAGON.

6BT IN A GMC:

I agree with everything "patriot", "Rebel",
"MGM" and "BPINE" already told you. You
have probably already read my old post on
my engine "upgrades" last year.

I have been talking to Joe Donnelly about
the HX-40 as "Rebel" pointed out. Like
him I "hope" to be over 400 H. P. at the
rear wheels after that install. Joe has
also told me that the "215 pump" is the
"best way" to get more H. P. out of the
12 valve engine. Unfortunately, like some
of the others I have the 180 pump too.

Hope this helps you.

Sorry for my ignorance here fellas.

I thought the pump for the autos and the sticks were the same with the difference being the injectors.

Please explain,
Ryan

6BT, the pump is a focus, as mentioned by Rebel, MGM, and John. You can either change the pump cam, delivery valves, install gov spring, and get that pump on a stand to measure out some fuel delivery, or send your core into Piers and get one already set up for you, you make out better with going to BD, unless you have a pump guy that owes you a favor. Good luck and don't forget the other mods!

I wish I could afford to do that! #ad

6bt,

This best way to go , if you can afford it is get another injection pumped prepped by Piers @ BD Power. If not, the mods the guys were saying will get you there.

Cooker,
The pump internals are slightly different in a 175 pump vs a 215 pump. larger delivery valves, different governor settings, and a few other things.

turbonatr,

There is a new member named Bent6 on the board. He has a Buick GN like you. I saw his ET so, asked him for some details on the car:

"Don't know how to post a pic on here. The car is an '87 Buick Regal with a SINGLE turbo, Stage II Buick V-6, Fel-Pro Sequential fuel injection, API electronic 2-speed automatic with lockup, full tube chassis, 33x17 Hoosier slicks, weighs 2850#, and yes, it does have a pneumatically launched parachute. The car has run a best 1/4 mile time of 7. 70 @ 179mph, 1. 12 60ft and a best 1/8 mile time of 4. 99 @ 141mph. We are looking to go even faster this year with the addition of an even larger turbo. The car is making around 1300hp and 1100ft/lbs now and the new turbo has the potential to add another 400hp - little V-6 willing! Someone tell me how and I will post some pictures!"

Read my Signature, this only equals 335 hp. I am a firm believer that the 180 hp pump is severally handicapped. At this point you can cheat and add propane and get to 435 but IMO if you want to get to 400 on #2 only with a 180 hp pump it needs to come off for some TLC.

Anyone have an idea on the cost of recalibrating the 180 pump?Or the cost of an exchange BD pump?

I was quoted over $2k for a high performance pump from BD because I have the 160 hp pump and they wouldn't take mine in as a core because it is a smaller pump. I don't know if the 180 hp pump is too small to be a core, but you should ask.

HEMIDart,
Best money I spent, besides the purchase of the truck, was with Auto Wurks. It was like I dropped one truck off and a week later I picked up a totally different one. It will be going back soon for valve body mods. Hopefully, the next major mod will be an HX40. Looking for very low 14s between the valve body/converter and the HX40.

Sounds like Bent6 has a bad ride. My GN is slowly making the crossover to a race car. First, I need to start taking weight out of it, 3700lbs. and tons of torque makes for a race car than breaks parts.

6BT IN A GMC:

On your question about "recalibrating"
the pump, as I recall "Scheid Diesel"
can do them for less that 1K. Call "J. P.
Pezan" or Dan Scheid at the Terre Haute,
Indiana shop. Their number is: 1-800-669-
1593. They have the calibration machines
to do the P7100 pumps and are a certified
Bosch dealer and have been for a long time.

I will check my invoice for you to see
exactly what I paid.
