Anyone know where one might pick up a good set, preferrably on the cheap? (long shot, I know)

BTW: I need the five hole type.

Not in any major rush to acquire any, but do want some on hand when its time to replace these 17. 5"s. (the steer tires seem to be wearing out rapidly but the rears are still in good shape. ).

It's getting harder and harder to find anyone willing or able to service split rims. :(

Split rims are the ones that used to kill people right. I saw a set once. What happened to them. Why the heck were they used in the first place if they were so bad?

Don, an uncle of mine has a '68 (I think) Travco, he was tired of the split rim deal, and upgraded to Alcoa's, they weren't cheap, but much easier to work with, and much easier on the eyes!

Alcoas would be nice, but since I ain't Donald Trump or Bill Gates, that ain't gonna happen. Besides, I prefer the look of the 'steelies' painted white anyways. :)

There is a difference between the split rims used on trucks (with the side ring) and the ones used on motor homes and some old school buss'es (had an old ford b600) the rim literally looks like it was cut in half in the middle of the tire area and there is a retaining ring inside the rim, you have to deflate the tire and squeeze the rim halves together to get the retaining ring off and it is next to impossible to see when the tire is infated unluck the common truck version in which the retaining ring is also the bead seat for the tire and you can easily see that the ring is not seated

you have no clue anything is wrong until it blows in half
